Linda Hamilton Confirms Role In ‘Terminator: Salvation’

It’s been a long-standing rumor that the original Sarah Connor, Linda Hamilton, would be making an appearance in Terminator: Salvation.
Well now that rumor has been confirmed by the actress herself: Linda Hamilton is currently in negotiations to appear in Terminator: Salvation, and we’ve got the details on the where and how.
At this year’s New York Comic Con Terminator Salvation director McG informed us that Sarah Connor would be “a key figure” in the film, and that much of the plot would (indirectly) revolve around her character. Of course, McG meant this in reference to the character (i.e. “personality”) of Sarah Connor; factoring the actual Sarah Connor into the plot of Salvation wouldn’t make a lick of sense at all, since we already know she dies before the post-Judgment Day future is realized.
So what room does that leave for Linda Hamilton in Terminator Salvation?
“My contribution would be voiceover,” [Hamilton] said. “I would probably be very happy to loan my voice depending on what the material is. Wait and see. They’re already writing it. We’ve been negotiating it… It would be great fun.”
Of course this voice-over “role” is exactly what many of us around the blogosphere have been predicting would be the case for some time now. So kudos to all of us who called it early. However, Hamilton’s support of T4 does lend McG some series Terminator street cred: Hamilton steered clear of T3 when it was in production, and we all know how THAT film turned out. So whatever is impressing her about McG’s take on the franchise, it’s a safe bet that it will also impress many of those amongst the Terminator faithful.
Or will it?
Is Linda Hamilton’s involvement enough to make you believe that Terminator Salvation will live up to what fans have come to expect from the franchise? Or do you still have your doubts?
Terminator Salvation hits theaters on May 21, 2009.

Kofi,
I’m afraid I didn’t read your article, but instead stared at the photo-heading of Linda Hamilton.
In all seriousness, you guys called it right on the money with the voice over part. I’m glad she is a part of it as it sort of goes to connect the old with new a little better.
Wasn’t there talk of starting another trilogy, making six Terminator movies in all? It’ll be cool to have that bridge between them, then.
Rev
I hope she is a part of it .
Sounds like she is still negotiating.
I think Linda Hamilton returning to the Terminator franchise will do it justice if she reprises Sarah Connor. With the mixed reviews for The SJ Chronicles and Lena Headey not as good as Hamilton, it should make headway as far as storyline potential is concerned.
I am excited that Linda is in serious talks of doing a voice over for the next film. Although whether or not she played a part in the film, I would still go see the film.
Yes, it makes it better. A lot better. I’ll feel tied in to the previous movies with only one character making a chameo, even if it is just her voice.
I do recall seeing in the trailer that some no name loser is playing Arnold? Is that true? Are we supposed to get lost in the idea that someone else can play the T-1000?
What this mainly does is give some credibility to McGriddle’s T4. First a reputable actor (Christian Bale) agrees to take on the role along with Sam Worthington, and now Linda Hamilton. So hopefully she’s not just broke as hell and needed some money…
Anyway, you said that she steered clear of T3 and we all know how that film turned out… yah, but there are the few people out that that doesn’t seem to get it, lol. I can’t believe there are critics and other people who claim to know about movies who actually liked that piece of garbage movie…
But yah, she’s definitely pretty bad ass in that picture…
Well Alex, to be fair, the fact that the exact same model T-800 was sent back for T2 was ONLY so movie-goers can see Arnold again because technically they are supposed to have a whole lot of different looks so they can infiltrate the bases. So realistically the Terminator in T2 should have looked different from that of T1, but it’s Hollywood, but I like it MUCH better that way anyhow.
So having a “different” looking T-800 instead of Arnold would actually make sense, as well as T-1000 since he can take the form of anyone anyhow.
But so far the rumors have it that they are going to use CG to put Arnold’s face on at least one Terminator in the movie.
I’m sure John Connor sent back the 101 model just to scare the poop out of his mother.
@arrell
That would be the most cruel practical joke EVER in the history of the world…
I bet after the end of T2 Sarah smacked John in the back of his head ahead of time knowing he will do that…
“This is for the joke you’re going to play on me in a few decades, damn brat.”
“Hamilton steered clear of T3 when it was in production, and we all know how THAT film turned out.”
It turned out awesome!
Glad to see she’s involved.
I never really thought much of her performace in T1 (I actually never thought much about T1 as a whole). But het performance in T2 is one I’ll never forget (I think, haha), just like the movie itself. T3 was indeed cr*p, but I am sure as hell going to see this one, and the fact that she’s involved (even if only for a voice over) give’s it some serious credibility for me (despite the huge robots, those made me doubt), lets hope this trust is not misplaced. Can’t wait to see it.
Amazing. The narrator part in Terminator 2 is an important element in that movie. I hope McG atually is able to make a great movie out of the material he seems to have. Schwarzenegger ( sort of ), Christian Bale in leading role, Linda Hamilton’s voiceover, several up and comming actos and a script co-written by Jonathan Nolan. He’s either a great talker or a walker. I hope that he’s the later. The script is what really matters and if Jonah Nolan is on it I’m sure it’ll be at least decent. Which is ten times better than the script for T3. I despise T3 for the fact that they hired Kristanna Loken just to cash in on her good looks. She did a pretty good job though for being totally misplaced.
Goodness Gracious The Papers!
What is all this bash for T3? Granted it is not as groundbreaking as T1 nor Epic as T2 but, guys, its not a terrible flick!
Yes, I could have done without the stupid jokes (talk to the hand) but there are still some great ideas put into T3 and it really is a great lead into Terminator Salvation!
I am still amazed by that Chase sequence, WOW! Seeing the first ever Terminator Models, the T-1s! The fact that Judgement Day is inevitable and the only way to win the war is in the future, not in the past! Great stuff here!
Lastly, it proves just how good the T-800 model is considering it was considered an obsolete design by skynet, yet it still was able to defeat their newest prototype, c’mon guys, less bashing of T3!
T3 didn’t feel like it fit into the whole universe created by the other 2 films. I like the fact that the new film seems to have forgotten that T3 took place. Then to add Linda Hamilton as the voice of Sarah Connor again just lends more credibility to the movie (even with the Transformer Terminators). I will definitely be going to see this film and I will be surprised if this film doesn’t have one of the top box office grosses for the year.
Now if only they can bring back Robert Patrick as the T-1000…..
It can’t hurt. They could still use her in flashback scenes. I doubt it, but it would be nice to see her in the film.
Andy S,
T3 WILL factor into T4. McG Confirmed that at the New York Comic Con this year. The scenario for Judgment Day that we saw at the end of T3 will be acknowledged in T4. John Connor’s wife (Claire Danes in T3) will also be the character from that part of the continuity. For the whole shabang I suggest you read this:
