It’s been 7 years since Bad Boys 2 and 15 since the original Bad Boys. After such long waits in between installments, we may soon get Bad Boys 3.

According to Martin Lawrence in an interview with MTV News, the possibility of reuniting with Will Smith and bringing action-comedy partners Detective Mike Lowrey and Detective Marcus Burnett back to the big screen is very realistic. Even director Michael Bay said he’s in as well.

“It’s real realistic… We’ve talked about ‘Bad Boys 3.’ ”

“Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice… I met with Michael Bay, and he said he’s onboard too — so it’s real.”

Last summer Columbia Pictures hired screenwriter Peter Craig to pen the script for a third Bad Boys. This was very early in the process and there were no contracts in place for Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Will Smith or Lawrence to come back for another. We know that for this to happen, there will have to be some massive payouts to these key four players and the only thing they’re waiting on now is from Bruckheimer to say when.

With Lawrence now saying that he’s met with Bay and that all parties are interested, it seems Will Smith will be returning to yet another one of his established film franchises. We recently heard about Independence Day 2 & 3, and we know they’re working on Hancock 2 and an I Am Legend prequel on top of Men in Black 3.

Bad Boys 2 was pretty fun as a theatrical experience if you could take it for what it was and enjoy the laughs and action. It helped being in a packed theater and I’d be interested in seeing another. However, out of Will Smith’s onslaught of upcoming sequels, I’m more interested in seeing what they’re doing for the Independence Day series.

Expect a scene with a large truck if Michael Bay is directing. No matter what the movie is or where it takes place, there will be destruction with a large truck. Even in The Island he managed to get the main characters out into the real world in an a truck chase scene. Hell, even in Armageddon he brought trucks to a giant asteroid. Trucks, Trucks, Transforming Trucks, Space Trucks, Future Trucks and Explosions.

Before we see Smith and Lawrence again in Bad Boys 3, Bay currently has Transformers 3 and his personal pet project Pain & Gain to work on first.
