I never understand the argument that any movie where you know the ending is not good to watch. So basically don’t watch any movie based on real events? How the event pans out is just as important, if not more important, than how it ultimately ends. I wouldn’t mind watching The Thing prequel if they did it well, and one of the things I would LOVE to see is Cameron doing a prequel to Aliens set between Alien and Aliens showing the fight on the moon colony between the colonists and the Aliens before the Marines arrive. That would be all kinds of awesome…

With the way they left The Thing so open ended, no one in their right mind would think of anything else but making a sequel. A prequel would fail miserably. The audience would be constantly distracted waiting for and anticipating the dog chase which would have to be the ending of the film. It would be, effectively, a cliffhanger with nowhere to go. And since most would certainly remember The Thing quite well, complete dissatisfaction would set in and word of mouth would definitely hurt the box office.

That screen shot is from the game which is a sequel to the film, and I have played that game through, it’s not bad actually!
Aside from some gameplay mechanics, the story is actually pretty good and would make a great film! It is about a commando/research team going in after communications with the Alaska team falls off. Then the virus infects them, all hell breaks loose, its really good!
They should try do that instead of telling it from the Norwegian’s POV. Also, there is this cool moment where you get to hear MacCready’s tape recorder and see notes from the doctor!

Love the Thing. Not sure how MacCready’s brother can be in a prequel though. Also not sure who wants to see a bunch of norwegians fight an alien. I imagine they’ll be speaking english though!

Much rather see a sequel by Carpenter with Russell.

A remake? Please NO!

The idea of a prequel about the Norwegian teams demise? I like it!

A sequel set on a presumably nuclear sub? Scary!

Both would be a good choice that I’d love to see. It would be a shame if they tried to put Mcreadys brother at the Norwegian camp though. Better to put him on the sub somehow,as a senior officer or science adviser.

My choice would be turn that monster loose on a sub. nowhere to run and only locked doors to hide behind.

If they’re telling it from the Norwegian POV than that makes it a prequel that would actually be closer to the plot of the original 1950s version.

years ago, john c mentioned he’d base it on the dark horse comic that was a direct sequel to the movie, and took place on a submarine.

I absolutely LOVE the 1982 version. The gore fest is legendary — even funny (the couch scene where everyone’s blood is tested is a laugh riot).

I’m with Heath — no remake, but SEQUEL!! And hey Heath — Russell and Carpenter have made it known they WANT to do a sequel? Where can I read up on that?

I saw The Thing when I was 13, in 1989, and it quickly became one of my favorite movies ever. Please, don’t make this movie.

Instead, let Kurt and John make the sequel they’ve been itching to do for years.

DON’T MAKE THIS! MAKE THE SEQUEL!

The Thing.
one of the truly good horror films.
it’s a classic, of a classic. I think I could go for a remake, because I have the J. Carpenter one to fall back on.

Carpenter is allowing too many remakes of his past films in recent years. The Thing shouldn’t be remade. I’ll settle for either a sequel or a prequel.

I’ve admired The Thing since my teens and this would be a good occasion 26 years later for a continuation. The enigmatic ending Carpenter originally chose justifies that much.
