lie to me2 Fox Cuts 9 Episodes from Lie to Me Season 3; Show Not Canceled (Yet)

Fans of Lie to Me will be disappointed to learn that Fox has decided not to pick up a back-nine order for the show – limiting the third season to only 13 episodes.

Fox made the decision to not order more episodes of the well-received investigation procedural, which stars Academy Award-nominee Tim Roth, due to the incoming show The Chicago Code (yet another police procedural).

However, there is a (slight) silver lining to Fox’s decision. According to Deadline, the move to not pick up the back-nine of Lie to Me does not mean that the network is canceling the series – at least, not yet. It also doesn’t mean that Lie to Me to me is certain to get a fourth season – Fox won’t make that decision until spring.

Realistically, Lie To Me‘s chances of getting picked back up in the spring don’t seem that good. Despite a strong first season, the show lost viewers in its second year, and hasn’t started out 2010 with much energy.

According to TV by the Numbers, Lie to Me pulled in a Live+SD rating of 1.9 and a Live+7 rating of only 2.5 for the week of November 15th-21st. In case you were wondering, Live+SD represents ratings from the viewers who watched on the original air date and Live+7 represents the number of viewers who watched on the original air date plus the viewers who caught the show on DVR (in the seven days following the original air date).

I’m not a huge fan of Lie to Me, but I’m sure there are devotees of the show among our loyal readers. Should Fox pick up the show in the spring, or has Lie to Me lost its spark?

  2. Lie to me was the only reason i ever even flipped the channel over to the fox network. now that they are’t showing it, i suppose i have no reason to even bother. Every time I turn on the tv, there is nothing but reality shows of hoe bags and cocky beef heads. No one cares!!! Bring back L2M!!

  3. I an in the UK and have just watched the 13th episode of series 3. Good god! Talk about cutting a man off in his prime! Bring Cal and the gang back for pity’s sake!

  4. I an in the UK and have just watched the 13th episode of series 3. Talk about cutting a man off in his prime! Bring Cal and the gang back for pity’s sake!

  5. I have just seen all episodes with in the last month – its addictive.

  6. at first I was not to interested in the show. But as I started watching it on Netflix the same thing happened as with numbers and lost; it grew on me. The cast, story line, and changes in the science of lie detection has brought a new lift to the series and subliminally teaching normal people how to detect when we are being lied to. No we are not able to change our own personal traits but it’s nice to have a one up on a perspective harmful person.

  7. This show has tough people actual things, unlike other shows on fox, even police series, this one actually is useful. ‘Lie to me’, has made me decide to become a psychologist or mental therapist, as it stuck me how if a person can understand you, the person can reach out to you and help you. This show has made me discover a new world, the world found under the skin, the real world. The truth. Tim Roth believed in his character, as he represented Paul Ekman (a psychologist that studies expressions) on which the show is based on, he gave me the feeling that for the first time I was living a true story, that wouldn’t end. It’s ironic as; the show is supposed to be about lying, yet it is so well done that you feel that, somewhere, somewhere this is actually happening. I loved this show, it gave me a reason to watch Fox either than that, after I heard that they canceled it I stopped watching this channel. I hope sooner or later someone will understand, this is more than a show.

  8. Lie to me is the best tv show so far, great actors, funny yet educating and very addicting plots…can’t seem to get enough well except now fox has put a stop to that…not good in the eyes of your viewers just read the posts/emails!!!! PLEASE BRING LIE TO ME BACK!!!!

  10. I believe that the main reason audience numbers may be low is that there are sooo many programmes polluting the system that good, great ones like ‘Lie to Me’ can take a while to pick up. I used to see this on the TV listings but only picked it up this year 2013 on Netflix UK. I was surprised when I did not move on to the next episode after the last one in series three and now know why. I think that cancelling this show was a premature decision and I cannot wait for the rest of season three and Season four. I woud love Dr Lightman and Dr Foster to get together – and I would like to find out how that happens. Oh, and I just loooooooved the reference to baked beans :-)

  11. how can u cancel a show like that?I mean come ooon, it was one of the best shows FOX had to offer!!even simpsons is getting tiring…you should have never stopped it, especially like that.

  12. Please come out with a 4th series Fox don’t have cable but I do have Netflix(this is how I discover Lie to me) an this show is absolutely brilliant!!!! I will be super sad/depressed if Fox does not decide to make a 4th series! I can honestly say I have never heared of “Chicago code” but I’d pick Lie to me over any Tv show out there right now!!! I’m going to buy all 3 Season!!!!’

  13. Ps… May I add that I agree with previous post that I was never even aware of Lie to me until just about a week ago an it’s April 2013!!! An now I’m almost on season 3 and am SOOO excited everyday to come home an watch what happened next! I LOVE Tim Roth’s character personally,an I agree with previous posts bout how well all the characters interact! This show is just clever, an will most definitely not be watching Fox now that I have cable! Lol…. BRING BACK LIE TO ME FOX,if you know what’s good for you! But kudos to Netflix for picking it up, so I could discover it in the first place!!!

  14. Bring back Lie To Me! Its my girlfriend and i`s favourite show! Nothing better than a few beers and some lie to me! Or laying in bed watching the show! Need it back!

  15. Please bring back lie to me. There is only a few good programs & this is 1of the best.

  16. I can’t believe this was cancelled after three seasons. It is one of the best detective series out there. I love the characters they are well developed and each loveable in their own way. The stories are intriguing and the mystery entertaining. Please, is there a chance to get it back. We are streaming on Netflix and almost to the end-it will be a sad day when it is gone for us.

  17. Bring back lie to me! One of the few intelligent, entertaining and well acted programmes out there, fox have a word with yourself, whoever is making this decision is making the wrong one!

  18. I believe it is Time for FOX to let people know what is going on with this TV Series. Is it going to be dropped or is Fox going to continue? It seems to me that there are a lot of people that truly like this show (me included). So why take the good TV shows off and replace them with reality shows?

    • I just discovered this show on Netflix…though my kids had already discovered it…I watch all 3 seasons. Can not believe they would end it…but it seems that it is too late…Could they bring it back. ?

    • You realise it was cancelled 3 years ago, right? I’m pretty sure Fox have let people know what’s happening at this stage..

      • I know, doesnt make us any less happy about the decision though.

  19. noooooo!… i just watched the last episode of season 3 … how can they just eneded there??? bring back Lie To Me!!!! Awesome Show

  20. I also started watching L2M on Netflix. My 10 year old son said it was boring, after season 2 he started watching more with me…he then said this is actually a good show!..and surprisingly we’ve learned a few things on this show! We arenow aware of our expressions…lol…we love this show!!!!!

  21. Someone has to bring back Lie to me!!!!! One of my favorite series definitely, I cant stay just with the episodes they released.

  22. I love this show, i’m studying in psychology and i’ve been hooked on this show. It’s not fair this show had to be basically cancelled so another show could air. Someone mentioned above that this show is actually useful in life and I agree 1000000%!! They have to bring it back!

  23. I’m gutted! I only recently discovered this show (due to Netflix), saw the first episode and immediately went on Amazon to buy the entire boxset.

I got through season 1 and 2 in less than a week. I desperately want to watch season 3 but at the same time I don’t! I don’t want it to end!

  24. Please bring Lie To Me back. This show is OUTSTANDING!! I heard a bout it a few years ago from my teenage daughter, but I was working and in grad school and had no time for tv. I told her I would catch the show when I had time. Fast forward, the show popped up on Netflix and my teenage daughter said “mom you have to watch it”. I watched the pilot and was hooked. I got through all 3 seasons in less that 2 weeks, watching several episodes back to back. Today I finished the very last episode and was so upset. How could it end that way. Please bring the show back. Some of us appreciate a show that stimulates the mind and not just numbs it with nonsense (ie. reality shows). Thanks!

  25. This was one of the best series ever. You have to bring it back.

  26. Ok, if the series is not cancelled, then why end it like that. Seriously, at least make an effort to end it halfway decent. The beginning of the 3rd season was a bit slow, but later on it was really really good and then, bam, gone. And we all know probably for good. How many times a good series (according to me, and some other people) got cancelled in mid season, and it just end. NO proper ending, just full stop. Ugh…

  27. PLEASE BRING LIE TO ME back!!!! IT was one the best shows ever……why was it stopped. We have watched most all of the episodes now two to three times! IT would be sooooo great if someone would bring it forward!

  28. Hi, hello. I just finished watching the series “Lie to Me’ on Netflix about 20 minutes ago. I have been in emotional turmoil since then. I don’t understand why someone would think it was a good idea to end the entire series on the note that it was. Lie to Me was such an intriguing show. I was completely wrapped up in it when it suddenly ended. I am rather angry at its ending. So many questions were left unanswered. I am writing this as calmly as possible considering my emotional state. So please, BRING BACK LIE TO ME.

  29. I just started watching the show on netflix. I love the show and can’t believe it’s cancelled. I can’t stand all the reality shows of wanna be stars on tv now. The commercials are waaayyyy too much. I am enjoying what I can on Netflix but I am truly disappointed on the show is cancelled.
