Let ‘The Incredible Hulk’ Buzz Begin!

I’ve mentioned previously that there’s been a surprising lack of news regarding the upcoming reboot of The Incredible Hulk. There have been a couple of photos released and the artwork you see on the left… but the biggest rumor so far hasn’t even been specific to the Hulk movie – it’s that Iron Man might appear in the film in the guise of Tony Stark.

Today we have confirmation that bit of news is indeed true from William Hurt, who plays General Ross in The Incredible Hulk:

“I have a scene with Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. It’s a funky scene. I don’t know how it’ll work, I know it’s weird [to work with a character from another movie], and to know it’s a device. We did something; I don’t know what that’s going to be like [to watch].”

He also goes on to talk about how the tone of this version will differ significantly from Ang Lee’s version of The Hulk:

“I saw that film. This is, stylistically, a completely different film. They just don’t relate… [Banner's] conscience still exists in a body that is a manifestation of power and is greater than his own ability to control it – and how he’s learning that relationship… society’s relationship with Hulk stops being so stupid.”

So in this version it seems the Hulk will be much more heroic and less of the “hunted and despised by society” type of character. I think that will certainly translate into a more appealing movie and more box office dollars. People love to cheer for a hero in a film more than they like to feel sorry for a tragic character – especially if that character is a superhero.

I’ve never been a huge fan of The Hulk in the comics but I’m looking forward to this movie.
