The LEGO Movie 2 will kick off production this October in Canada, ahead of its 2019 release in theaters. Turning a toy line into a hit film franchise may seem like a difficult task, but so far it's done better in Hollywood than video game movies. Though only a few have attempted the feat, Transformers' success as a franchise certainly helped pave the way. Following a separate path, LEGO has managed to jump from hit toys to video games to two extremely successful films so far. Soon, they will try their luck again with The LEGO Ninjago Movie, following the release of The LEGO Batman Movie earlier this year.

Even if this year's second LEGO film doesn't do well, the franchise is still on quite the roll. That's likely to continue in 2019 when The LEGO Movie 2 arrives. Directed by Trolls helmer Mike Mitchell and under the guidance of the minds behind the original film, the sequel is sure to be a big hit across demographics. Its February release date should also ensure success, as it won't have much in the way of competition. We may soon learn more about the anticipated sequel, as production is set to begin next month.

My Entertainment World has added a new listing stating The LEGO Movie Sequel will begin production on October 2nd in British Columbia. While the start of production on a traditional movie means the beginning of filming, LEGO Movie 2 will take a different approach. Still, the start of voice work will mean casting announcements should be arriving in the near future. Not to mention, the first LEGO Movie didn't shy away from including live-action scenes.

While we're unlikely to get any set photos from the shoot, the beginning of production will be followed by additional information about The LEGO Movie 2. That means a plot synopsis should be released, along with details on the new and returning characters to expect in the film.

It has been confirmed that The LEGO Movie 2 will address the real-world scenes featured in its predecessor, so there's a chance that the sequel will feature more live-action sequences than the first LEGO Movie did. By doing so, the absurdity will surely be dialed up and new narrative avenues should open.

We also know LEGO Movie 2 is supposed to be more musical and cosmic. While the first film got a lot of mileage out of its original song 'Everything is Awesome', it sounds as if the sequel will feature even more (hopefully, catchy) tunes. It will also take things into space, opening up tons of opportunities for new pop culture figures to join the LEGO cinematic franchise.
