Check out the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy teaming up in the new trailer for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. The sequel to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes from TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is due out in November on PS4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. The game is expected to follow a very similar format to previous LEGO games, a sprawling action-adventure with the ability to control dozens of different Marvel characters.
The open-world adventure of the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game garnered mostly positive reviews. The prior installment featured over 100 playable characters from the Marvel universe, including heroes from both the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy teams. The Guardians are back in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, and the new trailer shows that they will play a larger role in the sequel.
As can be seen in the space above, the new trailer showcases the Guardians of the Galaxy in action while sprinkling in the Avengers as they take on the time-traveling supervillain Kang the Conqueror through the city of Chronopolis. Rocket Raccoon narrates most of the trailer as he battles enemies with Baby Groot, who eventually grows into a full-sized Groot as he does battle with Star-Lord. The Avengers all make cameos in action during the trailer, especially Captain America, Thor, and The Hulk.
The game will introduce the ability to travel back and forth through time, which will certainly make Doctor Strange useful as a playable character. The trailer also gives a quick glimpse at some of the new iterations of Marvel heroes based on the game's time-traveling themes, like the cowboy Captain America from the Old West and the futuristic Spider-Man from 2099.
The new LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 trailer expands upon the 15-second teaser that introduced the game last week. The sequel shows plenty of promise as an action-adventure with a few new added wrinkles, like the time-traveling aspects and the introduction of new versions of characters. There's reason to be confident that TT Games will continue their prolific run of successful LEGO games.
Of course, there's no guarantee that LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 will garner the same reaction that the first installment did. The series is constantly trying to strike a balance between younger and older gaming audiences without skewing too far in one direction. But the new additions in the sequel have potential to make the game just fresh enough to match, if not improve upon its predecessor.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is expected to arrive on Nov. 14.
