In 2014, the writing and directing duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street) produced a surprise hit in Warner Bros' animated flick The LEGO Movie. They achieved critical and commercial success on The LEGO Movie by taking the classic children's toy and blending it with their brand of offbeat humor and emotional heart. Then, that success prompted Warner Bros to plan a whole universe based around the LEGO franchise, including the upcoming spinoff The LEGO Batman Movie.

The Caped Crusader appeared in The LEGO Movie, voiced by Will Arnett, as a Master Builder ally and quickly became a fan-favorite character. Now, Warner Bros opens up the DC Comics side of its LEGO universe with The LEGO Batman Movie, which will feature classic Batman characters -- some of which are featured on the IMAX poster for the film.

IMAX released an official synopsis for The LEGO Batman Movie along with a new poster that features Bats himself alongside Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl (Rosario Dawson) and Dick Grayson aka Robin (Michael Cera). The poster includes the tagline: "He's taking them under his wing... of awesomeness." Take a look at the poster and synopsis:

The LEGO Batman Movie IMAX Poster

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

In addition to Arnett, Dawson, and Cera, The LEGO Batman Movie stars Zach Galifianakis as Batman antagonist The Joker, Ralph Fiennes as Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth, Jenny Slate as fellow villain Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn, Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent aka Two-Face, and Mariah Carey as Gotham's Mayor McCaskill. Additionally though Lord and Miller served as producers, The LEGO Batman Movie was directed by Chris McKay (Robot Chicken) from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).

This latest poster, along with the last that was released by Warner Bros, seems to indicate Batgirl will be a major part of Batman's super-team in the upcoming film -- despite the fact that Barbara Gordon has largely appeared in plain clothes in the trailers for The LEGO Batman Movie. Fans hoping to see Batgirl officially team up with Batman and Robin may see that payoff in the final act of the film, though it remains to be seen. But, with the release of The LEGO Batman Movie only two short months away, fans won't have to wait much longer for this on-screen Batman, Robin, and Batgirl team-up.
