DC's Legends of Tomorrow said goodbye to 2016 with quite a bang, and it doesn't look like the CW superhero series is planning on losing any of that momentum when it returns in 2017. Not only will the series be embarking on a "Camelot 3000" adaptation, but it'll also feature the long-awaited return of Time Master, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), a "Land of the Lost" episode, and many, many more crazy adventures. Suffice it to say, it seems like Legends, which has always been one of the more ambitious superhero TV shows on the air right now, is only going to be upping the ante with their next round of episodes.
In addition to multiple different, strange adventures, the series will also see the Legends finally taking on the fully assembled Legion of Doom, which has been heavily hinted at already throughout its second season. With Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), and Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) finally teamed up - with it remaining to be seen when Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) officially joins - it should be a match made in comic book TV heaven.
With still some time to go until the series returns from its winter hiatus, though, a brand new teaser trailer for the second half of the season has been released online by The CW, offering some new looks at the Legends vs Legion showdown, as well as Darvill's return as Rip Hunter. Take a look at the promo for yourself above.
Now, Rip Hunter's return in the next upcoming round of episodes has been known about for quite some time thanks to some revealing set photos that surfaced online a few weeks back. However, it doesn't seem like his return will be quite as cut-and-dry as some fans might have expected, and it seems like, based on this trailer, that the Legion of Doom may have something to do with it also. What exactly Malcolm Merlyn and the rest of the villains have in store for Rip will have to wait to be seen, of course, but it throws yet another wrinkle into the already confusing mystery behind his initial disappearance.
The formation of the Legion of Doom has been built up to not only throughout the entirety of the second season so far, with basically all of the members already appearing at some point or another, but really back when some of the actors' contracts were revealed to include appearances on the DC TV shows outside of their respective originals. So because of that, the creative team behind the series has since then raised expectations for the inevitable showdown between the two teams to considerably high levels, which may be hard to live up to. To their credit, they managed to pull off a successful and entertaining four-part crossover with the other DC TV shows already this year, and now it'll just be interesting to see if they can pull off a similar feat once again.
Legends of Tomorrow returns at its new night and time with 'Raiders of the Lost Art' on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at 9pm on The CW.
