The fall television season is gearing up to kick off, with The CW readying its slate of four DC Comics-based superhero series in the same universe: The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. With the Girl of Steel officially making her way to the network for the show’s second season, The CW has already teased plans of a massive-four show crossover event (as well as a musical crossover between Supergirl and The Flash).
However, the shared superhero universe will also feature smaller crossovers as they have in the past, with one or two characters making the jump from one show to another. The Legends of Tomorrow season 2 premiere will include one of these smaller crossovers, with Arrow star Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen, appearing in new photos from the episode.
CBR debuted photos from the Legends of Tomorrow season 2 premiere episode, titled ‘Out of Time’, that feature the returning team of Legends, new addition Nick Zano as Dr. Nate Heywood a.k.a. Citizen Steel, returning villain Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), and Amell as Oliver Queen. Take a look at a handful of photos:
Based on the photos, it appears the season premiere of Legends of Tomorrow will see Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his team head back to the ’70s where they first met Darhk in season 1. Plus, the photos feature the show’s take on Albert Einstein, who was expected to appear in the season. According to the season 2 synopsis for Legends of Tomorrow, their new mission takes the team on an adventure through time and space as they hope to save Rip – with the help of Dr. Heywood.
However, Nate Heywood isn’t the only new addition to season 2; Legends of Tomorrow will also see the official introduction of the Justice Society of America, which was teased by Rex Tyler a.k.a. Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) in the season 1 finale. Additionally, Stargirl (Sarah Grey) will also join the show in season 2 as the Legends prepare to face the Legion of Doom. The new team of supervillains will feature antagonists from the other series within The CW’s DC universe, including Darhk.
That said, with so much to introduce during the season 2 premiere, viewers may worry that Legends of Tomorrow is overstuffing ‘Out of Time’. But, the show’s executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Phil Klemmer assured fans that they’re taking season 2 slower than season 1. As a result, Amell’s appearance as Oliver Queen may simply help to give viewers a nod toward the shared universe in which Legends of Tomorrow takes place.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same time slot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
