[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Legends of Tomorrow ahead.]
It has been a rough year for the Legends of Tomorrow. When the first season ended, they had only half accomplished their year-long goal. They managed to kill Vandal Savage, but there was no way to change time and save Rip Hunter’s wife and son. In the process, Leonard Snart was killed and both Kendra and Carter left the team to finally live a safe life together. With a much smaller team, they set out on a new mission. To fix time aberrations, a task previously handled by the now-destroyed Time Masters and now in the hands of the few still on the Waverider.
And then season two began. After a few months – during which time the Legends apparently still struggled with team work and completing their missions – they were suddenly scattered through time. After they got back together, they learned that their captain was missing and had to figure out how to come together under Sara’s leadership. Aside from their regular missions to fix time they have also been dealing with the Legion of Doom. And once Rip was found, he had no memory of his past. After some intervention from the Legion of Doom, Rip’s turned evil and is fighting his old team. And the season is not done yet.
At least, the season is not done airing yet. It has, however, wrapped filming. To celebrate, Caity Lotz (Sara Lance) posted a few group pictures on her Instagram from their last day on set. With her is Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory), Nick Zano (Nate Heywood), Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer), and Franz Drameh (Jefferson “Jax” Jackson). The five of them are looking pretty happy in the photos. It’s hard to tell if they’re in costume, as they are all wearing coats. But they do seem to be on a set of some kind.
It’s a little difficult to see much of the room the cast are in here, but it looks like it might be some kind of basement, or a room in a house or barn. On a table behind the group there is some scientific equipment, possibly a kind of machine. Perhaps their final mission this season involves a scientist of some kind, history is pretty full of them. Or maybe they’re interacting with a scientist they already know, such as Lily Stein.
Speaking of Stein, Victor Garber – who plays her father Martin – is suspiciously missing from the picture. So is another member of the team, Maise Richardson-Sellers (Amaya). Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) is not there either, which could indicate that Rip is still evil, or that the team will need to kill him. Or it could be that none of the three were in this scene for other reason, they could have all wrapped earlier and those characters could be just fine. Or they could all be in some kind of danger. There’s plenty of theories as to why they are missing from the photo.
And with only five episodes left this season, including season finale “Aruba”, the answers should be clear soon.
Legends of Tomorrow returns with ‘Land of the Lost’ tonight at 9 pm on The CW.
