[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Legends of Tomorrow ahead.]

-

Legends of Tomorrow's sophomore season is thus far off to a good start. With both Vandal Savage and the Time Masters now out of the picture, the Legends have taken it upon themselves to act as Time's keepers. And this self-designated responsibility has already led the team to various points in time and to interject themselves into several historical conflicts - including the Civil War and the tyrannical rule of a 17th century Japanese Shogun. The season began with the Legends traveling to the 1940s to prevent the Nazis (who were in cohorts with Damien Darhk) from leveling New York with a nuclear weapon. While the team was successful, their leader, Rip Hunter, went missing in the aftermath.

Now, the Legends are led by Sara Lance, and have been joined by two new members: Nate Heywood/Citizen Steel and Amaya Jiwe/Vixen. The latter joined the team after Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash murdered the Justice Society of America's leader, Rex Tyler/Hourman. Reverse-Flash and Damien Darhk will make up one-half of the Legion of Doom, who will become the main antagonists for the Legends going forward - the other two members will be Malcolm Merlyn and Leonard Snart. And while tonight's episode will see the team come face to face with Darhk and Thawne in the '80s, next week the team will be traveling further back in time.

The upcoming episode 'Outlaw Country' will see the Legends travel back to the Old West, where they will reunite with a familiar face: Jonah Hex. Now, in anticipation of the return of another historical DC character, The CW has released new images from next week's episode. You can take a look at the images below:

Jonah Hex appeared in the season 1 episode of Legends of Tomorrow titled 'The Magnificent Eight', where it was revealed that the Old West gunslinger was surprisingly familiar with time travel. As it turns out, Jonah Hex and Captain Hunter were acquaintances from a time before the Legends were assembled. This time around, it will be Sara Lance, rather than Rip Hunter, who leads the Legends into the Old West. And from the look of some of the images, they may show up just in the nick of time - ones shows Hex with a noose around his neck.

It will be interesting to see how Hex reacts to Lance as the leader of the team, and whether any possible answers to Rip Hunter's whereabouts will emerge - don't get your hopes up though. The episode's synopsis does reveal that the Legends will be traveling to the Old West due to a time Aberration, and will team with Hex to prevent the territory from falling into the lawless control of Quentin Turnbull. While this sounds like another Legends of Tomorrow one-off episode that will likely not bring us closer to the Legion of Doom's nefarious plots, there may yet be ramifications for the Legends' ongoing battle again Darhk, Thawne and their ilk.
