When The CW’s Fall 2016 lineup premieres later this year, it will be anchored by the network’s four DC Comics-based superhero series. Arrow will be returning for its fifth season and The Flash for its third, while both Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl will be heading into their sophomore outings (after season 1 of Supergirl aired on CBS last year). For its part, Legends of Tomorrow concluded its first season arc in the finale with the team of the Waverider having defeated Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). Additionally, the series teased a new storyline with the introduction of Rex Tyler a.k.a. Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) who revealed the existence of the Justice Society of America.
Now, with all of The CW’s superhero series heading into production on their respective seasons – Arrow season 5 began filming earlier this month in Vancouver, BC – Legends of Tomorrow season 2 gets started, as revealed by certain members of the cast and crew.
Brandon Routh, who plays Ray Palmer a.k.a. The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow (after being introduced on Arrow), posted a photo on Instagram of himself with co-stars Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) and (Mick Rory a.k.a. Heat Wave) on the first day of filming season 2. Take a look:
Additionally celebrating the first day of filming is executive producer Marc Guggenheim, who posted the front page of the premiere episode script on Twitter. Although we already knew the Legends of Tomorrow season 2 premiere title, ‘Out of Time,’ Guggenheim also confirmed the start of production.
Plus, a previously released photo posted on Instagram by star Caity Lotz, who plays Sara Lance a.k.a. White Canary, from the table read of the season 2 premiere episode confirms the inclusion of Nick Zano, who will join the show as Nathan Heywood a.k.a Citizen Steel in ‘Out of Time.’ Take a look at the cast of Legends of Tomorrow in Lotz’s photo:
It’s unclear if Zano is the person from Guggenheim’s photo of the table read that was pixelated out, especially since it seems Zano is wearing a different color shirt than the mystery cast member. Other options for the mystery character include Adams as Rex Tyler or another character entirely. Additionally announced cast member to be joining Legends of Tomorrow in season 2 is Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe a.k.a. Vixen, while both John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold) have series regular deals with Warner Bros. TV – and, as a result, could appear as well.
However, aside from the cast, the title of the premiere episode, and certain hints about the slow reveal of the villain, we know very little about Legends of Tomorrow season 2. That may be the case of the show being the last of The CW’s DC Comics series to premiere in the fall, so their schedule may be slightly behind Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl both in terms of production and teases for fans. But, not matter the cause, it’s likely we’ll learn more about the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow season at Comic-Con International in San Diego during the show’s panel.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
