Constantine's appearance on Legends of Tomorrow is still a little while off, but it sounds like it will be worth the wait. Legends was built to feature a rotating roster of heroes and villains and the opportunity for tons of cameos. So far, those appearances have ranged from historical figures, to new characters pulled from the comics, to cameos from other Arrowverse heroes. The upcoming third season may just see the show topping itself.

As teased in the extended season trailer that dropped today, Legends of Tomorrow is pulling out all the stops this year. The look at the show from earlier teased Gorilla Grodd in Vietnam, a visit from Kid Flash, and the introduction of futuristic vampires. On top of that, a version of Damien Darhk will be back and working with a new Legion of Doom -- which will naturally include Grodd. This Darhk will be a resurrected version of the character from after his death on Arrow, proving just how flexible death is in the Arrowverse. Darhk won't be the only mystical Arrow character this season, however.

THR spoke with Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Phil Klemmer and asked him about the recent news that Constantine will be appearing on the show this season. According to Klemmer, the character will not only be true to the comics, but his connections to the Arrowverse will continue to expand.

John Constantine holding out his arms.

"As for the character of Constantine, we knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends. His appearance in episode 310 will involve the following: a revisiting of Arrow season four and the events following that season’s finale episode; a confrontation with this season’s Big Bad on Legends — the name we’ve only heard whispered until now Mallus; some hot sex — something that has been in short supply on the Waverider thus far in season three; and Damien Darhk (Neil McDonough), because how can you do an episode about dark magic and not have Damien Darhk? More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it’s The Exorcist meets One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Demonic possession in a mental institution, what’s not to love?"

There's a lot to unpack in Klemmer's statement, but it all spells good things for Legends and Constantine. First off, it looks like the Hellblazer will be just as he is in the comics and his previous appearances. We also get confirmation that the events from Constantine's appearance on Arrow will factor into the new season. Of course, that appearance was heavily connected to both Damien Darhk and the Lazarus Pit, so it makes sense that the former Arrow villain and ally will both share screen time.

The statement also confirms when Constantine will show up on Legends, and it looks like it won't be until next year. The Arrowverse crossover at the end of November will be episode 8, so it's unlikely episode 10 will come until after the winter break. In all likelihood, the Constantine episode will kick of the second part of the season 3 in January.

Finally, we get hints that a new Big Bad, dubbed Mallus, will be tied to Constantine. While there's no character by that name in the comics, it could simply be an alias. Then again, maybe an original character will be pulling the strings of Darhk and the Legion. While Darhk shared leadership with the rest of the Legion last season, it will be interesting to see him answer to a higher up. And with the tease of The Exorcist meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, it sounds like Constantine will bring the best out of Legends.
