For fans of Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra who thought it may be a while until the premiere of Book 3: Change since the first official trailer was released only last week, the network has announced the third season’s premiere date – and it’s soon. Though The Legend of Korra has had some difficulties in the past weeks, with some Book 3 episodes accidentally leaked online by a Nickelodeon affiliate, it’s unclear whether those troubles affected the network’s planned release date.
In addition to a premiere date, a clip from the first episode was released (above) as well as the titles for the first three episodes and synopses for the first two.
IGN reported the official premiere date for The Legend of Korra Book 3 Change will be June 27th – i.e., next Friday – on Nickelodeon. With a 90-minute premiere, the network will air the first three episodes of Book 3: “A Breath of Fresh Air,” “Rebirth of a Nation,” and “The Earth Queen.” The following week won’t see a new episode of Korra, but Book 3 will resume on July 11th with the fourth episode airing in the show’s usual 8pm time slot.
The first episode, “A Breath of Fresh Air,” will pick up soon after the finale of Book 2 Spirits. Read the official synopsis:
After the events of Harmonic Convergence, Avatar Korra discovers that her decision to leave the spirit portals open has unexpected consequences. Wild spirit vines have overgrown Republic City and Airbenders are suddenly popping up across the four nations.
The clip released by Nickelodeon from this episode depicts Korra, Tenzin, and Jinora walking in a forest overgrown with vines. However, when Korra pulls back a curtain of greenery, it’s revealed that the wilds – as Jinora calls the forest – are encroaching on Republic City.
The second episode, “Rebirth of a Nation,” will deal more with the new Airbenders mentioned in the first synopsis – which is, in fact, the nation being reborn – as well as a criminal element. Read the second episode’s synopsis:
Korra, Tenzin and Team Avatar search for new Airbenders in an effort to recruit them and rebuild the Air Nation. Meanwhile, a band of sinister criminals are organizing to hunt down the Avatar themselves.
Though fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have seen plenty of storylines involving political strife and war, fewer arcs have dealt with the consequences of such events. The Legend of Korra picked up so many years after the preceding series that fans never saw how the previous Avatar, Aang, rebuilt the world.
Book 3: Change may give fans insight into not only how Korra will help rebuild the world in the wake of her spiritual battle, but also how Aang helped the world outside of Republic City recover from the Fire Nation’s war.
The Legend of Korra Book 3: Change will premiere Friday, June 27th @7pm on Nickelodeon.
