With the NBA regular season still a couple of months away, it’s understandable that LeBron James might get bored from time to time. That was certainly the case Sunday night, as James decided to entertain his Twitter followers and himself by answering questions. As he humored his fans, he made an announcement that got people talking and excited: LeBron James wants to star in Space Jam 2.
“Do you love Space Jam?” asked Parletoo via Twitter.
“Love that movie. Wish I could do Space Jam 2!” replied James.
A seemingly innocent question may have gotten the Warner Bros. execs thinking seriously about it. Although there is currently no word of a sequel to the 1996 film Space Jame being in production, there are plenty of reasons why it could be and should be.
The original film featured an animated Looney Toons cast and live-action basketball star Michael Jordan playing b-ball against a team of monster aliens for their freedom; it debuted at #1 in the U.S. and went on to make $230 million worldwide. Its commercial success was backed by a killer soundtrack that featured R. Kelly’s “I Believe I can Fly” and the rare film presence of its star, Michael Jordan. Jordan was retired from the NBA at the time, which I’m sure aided in the film’s appeal to basketball fans who missed him.
James was obviously one of those fans, as the current Miami Heat star was eleven when Space Jam came out. There is now an entire generation of people his age who fondly remember Space Jam and who would probably see a sequel with today’s Michael Jordan - and that’s (arguably) James.

The Looney Toons crew has proved to be timeless, and Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and co. wouldn’t be too hard to get on board for aSpace Jam sequel. You just need the artists and voiceover actors to make it all work.
There’s also no question that James could roundup a cast of his pals from the NBA to fill out the rest of the onscreen team. Compared to the original’s lineup of Shawn Bradley, Muggsy Bouges, Larry Johnson, Pat Ewing and Charles Barkley, guys like Dirk Nowitzki, (Like Mike) Metta World Peace, (Think Like a Man) and Steve Nash (Life as We Know It) have some actual acting experience. And if you want to question James’ chops, don’t forget all the hilarious Nike commercials where he played different versions of himself.
If LeBron really wants to be remembered as better than Jordan, maybe Space Jam 2 is the ticket?

Why ruin a classic by putting a wanna-be michael jordan in this movie. They should just leave it as a classic & not ruin it trying to make a comeback.
