I was skeptical at first hearing that they were going to go ahead with a fourth, and after all the tumultuous wrangling that went into it just to get it this far either means that the script will be a mess, or that they were really just hoping and waiting for the right story to come along, and I'm getting the feeling now that it's the latter. I hope I'm right.

As long as they make it fun, incorporating the same Saturday matinée serial feel executed with similar skill and some innovative and unexpected set pieces, I'll be happy. I hope it succeeds just to show newer audiences (the ones too young or not yet born to see the original in theaters) what an action movie really is. I hope it shows up movies like "Transformers" in a big enough way to remind people that you can and should have certain expectations even for the action/adventure genre.

Believe me, I *want* this one to be great. I love the first and third ones. I just don't know that they can recapture the magic.

And if you look at the plot lines of all the other Indiana Jones films, they weren't exactly shiny happy films. :-) I think they both know that they have to outdo what they did before, and with advances in computer graphics they'll be able to make the sets look a million times better than they ever did before.

I hope this one is set in South America. I'm betting they could do a lot with the Incan / Mayan / Aztec legends, particularly since the Mayans happen to think the world will be ending on 21 Dec, 2012 (at least that's what their calendar predicts). A dark film about scary stuff and having a great action hero like Indy through the middle of it all makes me smile just thinking about it.

Yeah, I know it's too early to tell. It's just that Spielberg has been doing such dark films for the last few years, and Lucas, well...

There's nothing wrong with convincing us. I own all of the other Indiana Jones films and will certainly go to see this one, probably more than once. I even have one of the hats.

To me, this will be like the Star Wars films where it's pretty much required viewing regardless of expectation. Sometimes you just have to say you got to see it on the big screen. Many of us have memories of the prior films and they are rather good ones. I got to see The Last Crusade with my grandpa (the only time he'd been in a theater to see a COLOR film) and that meant a lot to me. He's been dead now for many years, but I'll certainly think of him while I'm watching #4.

Somehow, I think they won't let us down - and may even pass the torch to that Transformers kid.
