The international trailer for La La Land has arrived and it offers no less of the old Hollywood charm and romance than the film's preceding spots. Emma Stone stars in the film as a struggling Los Angeles actress who meets an equally down-on-his-luck musician (played by Ryan Gosling).

This new La La Land trailer gives us more of the almost surreal paean to the old Hollywood musical that we've glimpsed in previous trailers for the film. It also showcases the conflict that arises between Gosling and Stone's characters in the movie, as they traverse the dizzying and often heartbreaking world of the entertainment industry; lovers trying to navigate their own dreams, without falling apart.

La La Land writer/director Damien Chazelle previously received much praise for his 2014 directorial effort, Whiplash, a film about a tenacious drummer at odds with a borderline maniacal music teacher who accepts nothing less than perfection. So far, the reviews of La La Land suggest that the well of musical drama has not yet run dry for Chazelle, as his musical has already won, among other accolades, the People's Choice Award at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

La La Land - Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone

La La Land marks the third time Gosling and Stone have shared the screen, having previously lent their chemistry to 2011's Crazy, Stupid Love and 2013's gangland picture Gangster Squad. J.K Simmons, whose turn in Whiplash earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, shows up here in a significantly smaller role - though fans of Whiplash will be happy to see that he is still being mean to musicians. John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt and Tom Everett Scott co-star in La La Land, too.

Here is the official synopsis for La La Land:

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
