David Hasselhoff recently shared that he spoke with Guardians of the Galaxy franchise helmer, James Gunn, about the possibility of collaborating again together in the upcoming reboot of Knight Rider. The original star of the series had the opportunity to board the Marvel Cinematic Universe's own version of space opera via Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - which Gunn both penned and directed - when he appeared in a small bit being Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) make-believe father. The two's working relationship also included a special '80s themed music video of the film's original song, "Guardians Inferno," which will be included in the Blu-ray of the Marvel hit. Now, it appears that their new connection will go beyond the boundaries of the MCU.

Hollywood is currently populated with reboots and revivals but the creative and business scheme is still very much dependent on the work that is done with the contemporary remake of old properties. While some risks of revisiting these old projects have become box office and critical successes like Jurassic World, Creed and the resurgence of Star Wars, there are some that have fallen into the traps of bombing in both critical and audience reception like Baywatch and Ghostbusters. That said, Hasselhoff is still hopeful that the movie remake of Knight Rider will be part of the former group rather than the latter, especially if he'll be able to get Gunn as the helmer of the film.

Talking to THR in light of the nearing home release of Guardians Vol. 2, Hasselhoff shared that there have been discussions between him and Gunn to possibly collaborate on Knight Rider's contemporary big screen adaptation:

"I’ve given some ideas to James for Knight Rider and he responded in a big way. If it does go forward, I don’t want it to be spoofed like Baywatch or 21 Jump Street. Those films lose what it’s about and you have to respect the fans."

Hasselhoff has been actively involved in the rebooting process of the TV series that catapulted him to stardom in the 80s. In the series' four-season run, the actor played Michael Knight, a high-tech crime fighter assisted by a self-aware and indestructible vehicle. The film project has been a long time coming with talks about it dating all the way back to 2002, but it was only in 2015 when Hasselhoff's name was actually thrown in the mix.

Gunn has yet to say something specific regarding the movie. And despite Hasselhoff's hopeful tone, it is no secret that the filmmaker's hands are full with all things Marvel. On top of penning and directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he is also the main man within the studio who is in charge of everything that involves the cosmic realm of the franchise, which could ultimately spell the difference between him nabbing the opportunity and passing up on it.

Although the Knight Rider movie remake has been in development for more than a decade now, not much is known about this planned contemporary retelling of the hit TV series. Nevertheless, casting rumors have swirled around the internet with buzz suggesting that Pratt (coincidentally) as well as Danny McBride were at one point in the running to join the film.
