Kingsman: The Secret Service is the second film on which director Matthew Vaughn has teamed up with comic book writer Mark Millar - the first was Kick-Ass - and the third based directly on one of the author’s books - the other was Wanted, directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Kingsman: The Secret Service follows Gary “Eggsy” Unwin (Taron Egerton), who is introduced to the secret world of espionage by Harry Hart (Colin Firth). Though Egerton was the main focus of the film’s first trailer, Millar spoke at San Diego Comic-Con this year that Firth’s character allowed the actor “to do some cool stuff.”

In fact, Firth’s jump from romantic comedies and historical dramas has been the most talked about aspect of Kingsman: The Secret Service. For those that may have doubted the actor’s ability to play a character as polite as he is deadly, the newest trailer for the film features Firth showing off some of his moves and gadgets - as well as his English idioms.

The second trailer for Kingsman: The Secret Service (above) introduces the viewer to Egerton’s Eggsy, a highly intelligent petty criminal, and his first meeting with Hart. During the meeting, Hart ends up fighting a group of men who are after Eggsy, but not before saying: “‘Manners maketh man,’ do you know what that means?”

The trailer also features more extended previews of Samuel L. Jackson as the antagonist, Valentine, including his extreme dislike of the sight of blood and his evil plot, as well as his henchman, Gazelle (Sofia Boutella), a woman with bionic legs.

Although many may have questioned Firth’s involvement in Kingsman: The Secret Service since he is not known as an action star, his dramatic background seems to have prepared him enough for the role. As Firth plays him, Hart appears to be an agent whose exterior is deceptive of his skills, which creates an intriguing character dynamic.

Additionally, though Firth may be the mentor to a particularly troubled Kingsman agency recruit, he may not have as many action scenes as the younger hero of the story. From the trailer, it’s difficult to tell how much action Firth actually has a hand in. However, what is shown is certainly promising for those that may have had their doubts about the actor in such a large role in an action film like Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Kingsman: The Secret Service premieres February 13th, 2015.
