Fans of the upcoming Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel will have surely noticed that over the past several months, more and more information has begun to pop up. Though not a lot of this information has necessarily been related to the plot of the second chapter in the action/spy series, it has given fans a very specific idea of which actors are returning and which new additions will be joining the production.
Within the short span of roughly two months, Kingsman fans were told that Jump Street and Magic Mike regular Channing Tatum had joined the cast and were even treated to some on set photos of the actor in costume. Next came the announcement that classic rock n’ roll icon Elton John was also on board, though at the time of this writing neither his role nor Tatum’s has been publicly defined. With principal photography on Kingsman: The Golden Circle having only recently gotten underway, it appears that once again it’s time for a cast update.
This time it’s The Dude himself – Oscar winning actor Jeff Bridges, who left a straightforward acknowledgement of his involvement with the film via Twitter. “The only Golden Circle I want vexing me is the one my glass leaves behind on the table,” reads the text on the poster tweeted by Bridges. Resting in the center of the image is a glass of what appears to be whiskey. Take a look at the Kingsman poster:
Devoid of any further comment aside from a Kingsman hashtag, the poster follows the same process of minimal revelation as have posters for Channing Tatum’s, Elton John’s and (possibly) Colin Firth’s confirmed involvement in the sequel. Director Matthew Vaughn and co. have been doing a rather stellar job thus far in keeping most things about The Golden Circle hush-hush. So, much like the rest of the gradually revealed cast, Bridges’ exact role in the film is presently unknown.
The secrecy with which these actors have been introduced meshes nicely with the obvious secrecy of The Golden Circle. But what exactly is The Golden Circle? Is it a sinister organization? A powerful and highly coveted weapon or artifact? The melding of several international spy agencies? All that is known thus far is that the film will see the United Kingdom’s Kingsman organization join forces with its American equivalent, The Statesmen. Beyond that, information regarding the return of Gary “Eggsy” Unwin (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) has been refreshingly scant.
Given the huge success of its predecessor, the return of Vaughn and co-writer Jane Goldman as well as the acting talent involved – which potentially includes Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) – Kingsman: The Golden Circle looks to stand a very good chance at meeting fans’ expectations. What’s more, there’s still plenty of time left for further surprises related to the film to be revealed and that possibility alone remains an enticing one.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set for release on June 16th, 2017.
