Kick Ass Dons The Cover of Empire

One of the most highly anticipated films of 2010 is Matthew Vaughn’s (Layer Cake, Stardust) ultra-violent comic book adaptation, Kick-Ass. It follows a teenager who one day decides to dress up like a superhero (even though he has no powers) and proceeds to try and take down all the bad guys he can find. His masked debut leads to others following suit (get it?), and soon there are superheroes roaming the city including Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

Just to give you an idea of how much we’re looking forward to this project, it’s featured at no. 2 in our 2010 most anticipated list, just behind Iron Man 2. We’re anticipating it so highly not just because of the source material, the cast or the director, but also because the footage we’ve seen so far has looked, well, kick ass.

The highlight of the film has been Hit-Girl, a young teenage girl who swears like a sailor and seemingly causes more bloodshed than everyone else in the movie put together (check out the red bad Hit Girl focused trailer if you haven’t already).

To add to the promo material we’ve seen for Kick-Ass, today we have some new images courtesy of Empire magazine. They’re only available in the actual magazine itself and not online, so we’ve decided to scan some of them to let you have a look before you head out to pick up your own copy. Here are a few of the images that are featured on the cover, as well as in the fold-out section at the beginning of the magazine. Enjoy:

Thoughts on the above Kick-Ass images from Empire? Where does the movie rank on your most anticipated list for 2010?

Kick-Ass hits theaters April 16th, 2010 in the U.S. Apparently it hits UK theaters two weeks earlier on April 2nd (I’m not gloating or anything icon razz Kick Ass Dons The Cover of Empire …)

  1. Hmm, if only I was still subscribed to Empire… I might buy this issue though.

But we get it sooner? Nice, that rarely happens with the big releases, it's usually at the same time or months after the US release. :p

  2. I'm not looking forward to this anymore after the Hit-Girl trailer. I don't mean her language (I don't care for that either) but I recall this movie pitched as “realistic” and in the trailer… wire stunts and more effects that made me say “what happened to the realism?”

  3. You know, I hadn't thought about it that way – that's a very good point.

  4. why isnt red mist there?:(

  5. Yeah I'm definitely looking forward to this movie. I'm kinda lukewarm on Hitgirl for some reason, though. I kinda feel like her character is almost gimmicky because of how out-there she is. I don't WANT to feel that way, it's just kind of the feeling I get when I watch the trailers. I'd personally like to see more of the other characters. I really like all of them.

  6. I totally want to but that now. That looks amazing and awesome. I'm just worried now that what if it's going to be like Watchmen, I was so hyped up for that movie and when I saw it I was so dissapointed. I wanted my money back.

Do you think Kick-Ass will be the same way? I mean storyline like?
