Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar spoke last week with Empire and revealed that the character Red Mist would become "... basically Charles Manson as a supervillain" in Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse talked previously about the Kick-Ass sequel - which was greenlit a few weeks ago - and revealed that his evil Kick-Ass alter ego, Red Mist, will indeed become a formidable opponent for the titular hero in the followup.

Millar has now spoken up about what exactly regular guys Chris D'Amico and Dave Lizewski - now Red Mist and Kick-Ass - will be doing in Kick-Ass 2:

"It's gangs going all over New York filming atrocities on their cell phones and putting them on the internet, trying to outdo each other, all at the behest of Red Mist... And [Red Mist] calls himself The Motherf-----... the worst of all villains."

"But at the same time we continue the story of Dave and all the complications in his life as he gets deeper and deeper into this dangerous hobby he's got where he dresses up as a superhero and gets beaten up every night.  So he forms a gang and what you've got then is all the heroes versus all the villains in a big gangfight."

Mintz-Plasse is still associated primarily with his turn as the nerdy McLovin' in Superbad.  Millar says that issue in part inspired the new R-Rated name for Red Mist in Kick-Ass 2 - though Mintz-Plasse's appearance and mannerisms are the qualities that need to be altered if the actor hopes to truly convince moviegoers that he can play something other than an awkward geek/wannabe cool guy onscreen.

Heath Ledger's now famous transformation into the psychotic Joker in The Dark Knight demonstrated how even an actor playing a comic book baddie can vanish into the role.  Mintz-Plasse will be hard-pressed to fulfill Millar's hopes that Red Mist will make "[Ledger's] Joker look like Cesar Romero's Joker" in the Kick-Ass sequel - still, crazier things have happened.

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is tentatively scheduled for release in 2012.
