KFC Gaming, a video game-based social media offshoot of restaurant KFC, has mocked CD Projekt Red's continuous delays of Cyberpunk 2077 by delaying its own (fake) video game console. KFC Gaming was created back in 2018 as a marketing tool for KFC, and the brand has grown to encompass Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts. In June of this year, a deliciously fictitious gaming console was announced, the KFConsole, to tie in to the recent launch of next-gen systems.

CD Projekt Red's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 has been highly anticipated by gamers since its announcement back in 2012. Unfortunately, The Witcher developer has been forced to repeatedly delay the title from its original April 16 release date, with its latest release date being December 10. These repeated delays have been heavily criticized by those who are looking forward to the game's release, but the discussion of delays has slowly transformed into a discussion about crunch in the video game industry. Many claim that CD Projekt Red's culture of crunch development, forcing its creators to work extra hours for months at a time, is unethical. The repeated delays and the crunch controversy surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 has since led to a drop in CD Projekt Red's stocks.

Now KFC Gaming has delayed it fictitious KFConsole to December 11 in a Twitter post that is clearly mocking CD Projekt Red's delay of Cyberpunk 2077. The message to fans is styled after a CD Projekt Red Twitter post from October 27 that announced the latest delay of its sci-fi role-playing game. The faux delay of the KFConsole is hilariously attributed to continued testing of the console's Chicken Chamber, the distribution of a Day 0 patch, and confusing international date formats. The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account also commented on KFC Gaming's joke.

In order to keep up the hype for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has focused on marketing by bringing a number of in-game items to life. The Porsche 911 Turbo, a car driven by Keanu Reeve's character Johnny Silverhand in the game, has been brought to life as a customized sports car. The car was featured in a commercial for the game, and was also shown off at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany back in October. A Cyberpunk 2077 edition of the OnePlus 8T cell phone has also been created with a design inspired by the game's futuristic aesthetic. The phone appears to be exclusive to China, and featured a few cosmetic add-ons such as unique badges representing the game's various gangs.

The repeated delays of Cyberpunk 2077 have been highly controversial, especially due to the crunch-focused development employed by CD Projekt Red. The situation is a perfect opportunity for a group like KFC Gaming to make a joke, poking fun at some big gaming news. CD Projekt Red's acknowledgement of the joke also appears to be in good fun, but those looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 may not be amused at the studio's lighthearted comment. As the supposedly-final release date draws near, many wonder if CD Projekt Red has bitten off more than it can chew.
