Pullo and Vorenus absolutely rule as characters. Their relationship is so fun to watch. Rome is just amazing, It´s such a shame that it was canceled. Actually I am rewatching it with my wife.

I think Brannagh made a good choice, he picked a near unknown which was a brave choice and will pay off when the film is released. It's so rare an unknown actor is given the chance to star in a blockbuster these days, it's how they used to find great stars.

I don't know about the whole sex scene stuff... But anyway, it was cool to watch them together because Vorenus is portrayed as a very troubled and dark guy, always serious, always pretty dreadful. But then you see him and Pullo together and you see moments where Pullo makes Vorenus break out in laughter and more often than not have a smile on his face, it's actually pretty nice. Yes, it really was a bromance, but a good one because they do manly things together like rip out peoples' tongues and chop off limbs and all that good stuff, lol.

(Ken J you might-maybe just might-love Rome as much as I do.)
YAY! NEWS FROM ROME! Rome is so well scripted and acted, it's amazing to watch. Ray Stevenson is also a huge mountain of a man who is extremely sexy and a very nice guy in person according to his fans and the interviews of him I've seen. He does very enthusiastic sex scenes and is also just as fun to watch taking out his enemies.

I love the friendship between Pullo and Vorenas and the depiction of pleblian life as well as the higher class.

Yah, my list of shows I watch is pretty short. Right now it's really just House and I'm watching V just to see if it'll be any good. I don't have Showtime, so I wait for the seasons to end and I get the DVD sets of Dexter to watch them, lol.

@SamBeckett

Let's put it this way, you haven't lived a complete life until you've watched Rome, lol. :-D

Ok, seriously though, the show is considered by many as one of the most accurate depictions of historic Rome ever put on any size screen. But the major accomplishment here is not its accuracy, you can watch a documentary for that. The accomplishment here is that they made it into a VERY entertaining show.

It is basically a fictional show inspired by real people and events of Rome through the eyes of two main characters: Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd pictured above) and Titus Pullo (played by Ray Stevenson, aka Punisher from Punisher Warzone and now confirmed to be one of the Warrior Three in the upcoming Thor). And while it's 100% fiction that these two witnessed all of the important events of historic Rome, these two actually existed and their status of being "legendary warriors" is actually true.

And being that it was produced by HBO, they were not shy about using sex, violence, and gore. Usually this annoys me because its childish, but it seems Rome was right at home on HBO because you really can't accurately show Rome without those things. So while with most of their shows, the over-use of sex, violence, and gore is just a gimmick to get ratings, it actually serves to make Rome so much more realistic.

The dialogue is incredibly smart, and the way they tie all of the important events of Rome together with these two characters is brilliant. And you will realize this when you watch it, but to see Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus completely destroy an entire group of people is so satsifying to watch, it doesn't ever get old... I always always just hoping that something will prompt them two to get into some big huge fight, you know it will be a bloodbath, and none or very little of it will be from them, lol.

Strangely, even this aspect is realistic. The reason why these two were so legendary to the Roman soldiers back then was because of a stunt they pulled while in enemy territory. The two of them basically left the security of their camp and went into enemy territory alone and basically fought off and killed a number of enemy soldiers by themselves and were able to make it back to the camp alive. So in a way, they actually were such bad-asses in real life, lol. So they picked the perfect people to revolve the show around.
