That last picture of Alexander Skarsgård really seals the deal for me. He's already muscular, and just needs some mass. He looks more like Thor then anyother candidate. I'm worried about having Josh Hartnett as Loki. Although he has a somewhat evil look/grin to him, I'm not sure Josh can pull off the diabolical nature of Loki. And as for Portman being Lady Sif?? I think she's too short. Lucy Lawless in her younger days would've looked better.
  • CHARLIE HUNNAM!
Come on, that guy deserves it!
  • John "Kahless" Taylor
HEEEEEECCCCCKKKKK NOOOOOO!!! josh harnet as Thor???!!! What are these people thinking!! He might make a good Loki. As for all the other picks, they'd better start pumping some serious iron to wield Mjonir. All of them just look too scrawny to me.
  • SK47
HEEEEEECCCCCKKKKK NOOOOOO!!! for Josh hartnett even as Loki! NOPE! Well, that is my opinion. Out of all of them, yep, it has to Skarsgard. Manowar says it best, that pic seals the deal! And you are right, Rob, some working out to get some mass, he will be fine. I would not say he should be cut but have mass put on him. Something similar to how Arnold was in Conan, he was not really cut up for the film but he had the mass and structure.

Now I love Natalie Portman. I mean, reeeeaaaallly love her! But hells nah for Lady Sif! Portman's a hobbit if she is paired up with Skarsgard! They need to do a casting search for Sif as well!
  • I don't know who can look at that pic of Alexander and call him skinny...

    @John "Kahless" Taylor

    beat me to it Damn!!!

my 2 sents; cast Alexander Skarsgård and this movie will rock...
  • I'm going to have to agree, Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd has my vote. Two years of bulk should put him at about the appropriate size.

Though, the wrestler "Triple H" is already there. :P
  • SK47
    @Carl Lee,
Yes Trips has the size, but his look is more suited for a Conan film than Thor. Best example, when he came out sitting on the Conan throne at WrestleMania 20! Plus all his T-Shirt merchandise takes from the Conan world and Frazetta art!

as it goes for natalie Portman i do feel a bit conflicted you see small might be good it could make him look huge!!!
  • almanza
Alexander Skarsgård is my pic out of these.
on Portman, maybe getting small actors like her, could make Thor appear more godly and large. so that would be cool. he would apear as big as the comics w/out actually being it. and i mean not everyone has to be small, he's amongst gods, other guys could be as big as him, and he should fight frost giants and dragons!!!!!
  • @SK47
That doesn't mean he can't play both characters. I'll stand by Alexander but if HHH rumours start floating around, all bets are off.
  • Andy S
Definitely Alexander. Of all the candidates he's by far the closest to the look of Thor. Josh Hartnett, really? They must smoke some good stuff in the casting room at Marvel. LOL. Loki, yes, Thor, NO!! The other guys mentioned aren't even CLOSE to the right size for Thor.

As for the wrestlers, let's just leave them in the ring where bad acting is mandatory.
  • Rorschach
    im for Alexander Skarsgård .
he looks the part and we know he can act.
so all he needs is a little more Bulk and let odin give Mjolnir to his Powerful son.
  • Iron Knight
Oh god! Just seeing tha image of Alexander... Man, HE IS THOR!!! Yeap, hands down... the best and perfect choice.

And as for Loki, Josh isn't that bad, but I think they should keep looking for somebody else.
  • greenknight333
He looks the part but does he have the chops guys and gals..I haven't seen anything he is in..Is he in the same class as RDJ, Edward Norton, Hugh Jackman, Tobey Macguire...if not can he bring credibility to the role and not turn it into something campy..that's how Thor will come off if it is not done properly..
  • greenknight333
    Maguire I meant...
  • Daniel F
I haven't seen that pic of Alex yet I admit he is much bigger in that than any picture I have seen. However I was looking at pictures from this year in fact only a month ago and he was very small in those pics. So I'm confused about the massive loss in mass. Still not my first choice, but out of the currently listed contenders he is really the only option non of the others are even close to resembling Thor. A lot of people say Alex can act so I'll just hope they're right. I haven't seen anything he has been in and honestly have no interest in them especially True Blood which from what I have seen previews of looks awful.

With that out of the way I think Hartnet as Loki and then putting Portman in the film is an excellent decision. I would say have Alex beef up some and have Josh slim down a little more and it would look really well. It would of star power and Josh and Natilie are both talented actors.
  • Gary
    ALEX.
    Its a no brainer.
  • @ Daniel F,

My goal in writing this was to convince you and I looked for that pic of him just for you as well :)

    Mission Accomplished.
  • N. Haney
Skarsgård. period. hartnett i could see as loki.
  • DAVID
There's no way Hartnett could be in this film.....just no way! Of the choices here, I'd be cool with Alexander but I still prefer Kevin McKidd. The actor needs to be in his mid-30's to convey the authority of a Norse god. I'm hoping Branaugh makes a good call. Portman as Jane Foster would be fine too. There's only one Loki....Adrien Brody.

I have seen much of Alexander Skarsgard's work in English and Swedish. He's wonderful and he's not trite in his interpretations. His would be a very complex and nuanced depiction of Thor (in addition to the action)- not one dimensional. The looks and lineage are perfect. Skarsgard is the one.

Harnett as Loki could be interesting if his abilities are broader than he's previously shown. Heath Ledger was a respected actor before he played The Joker. Playing a villian does not guarantee a good performance; but if Hartnett can use Loki to show real acting chops then it could change the course of his career.

Portman? Mixed feelings about that. The film could use her star power and beauty. Can't picture her with Skarsgard, though. And I haven't really liked her recent performances that much. Still, I don't want to underestimate her. I'll reserve judgement pending further consideration.
  • sweetwater
Oh yeah! Stellan Skarsgard as Odin would rock!
  • Daniel F
Just a minor Correction Rob I'm not Convinced just warmed up to the idea. Still not my first choice out of anyone just on this list. To be fair with out that pic he would still be the first one. I don't know anyone on this list except for Hartnett and he looks more like Thor than any of these guys. He is indeed bigger than I had thought though the newest pics of him show him as much smaller than that. I also have no knowledge of his acting because all of his work has seemed like crappy films or TV so I choose not to watch.
  • Ken J
I like Nathalie Portman and feel that she is one of the few exceptions to the current trend of bad young actresses. Seriously, can you name more than 2 young actresses now that actually can act??

But the last movie I saw of hers, V for Vendetta, I wasn't too impressed with her. But I think it was more to do with the way her character was written than her acting...
  • Carl XVI
    Skarsgard for Asgard!

He's Thor, just hope the guys behind the movie can see that.
  • Daniel F
V for Vendetta was just a poorly put together movie. I think her poor performance was part that and part her probably not truly being supportive over the film. Most actors no matter how artistic usually at least do one or two movies just for a paycheck. My fave performance by her was in Garden State.
  • Adrian
    @Carl Lee
Triple H should only be an extra just for fanboys.

Betting Alexander Skarsgård gets the main role, but Charlie Hunnam second pick.
  • SK47
I like Portman as an actress, like Ken said she is very talented compared to the cokeheads that is considred "young Hollywood", but also, like every other actor/actress everything is hit and miss. Halle Berry got an Oscar for Monsters Ball, then made me wonder why in Catwoman and Die Another Day.
I think Portman's best work has been in Closer. I really enoyed V For Vendetta but I agree with Daniel that she really didn't do it for me in that film. There are small parts where she shined but overall, not that good. Anyways, point is, my standing is that just because she is talented does not mean she is right for this. I think she would make a better Janet Pym/Wasp. That is more suited to her.
