Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are pairing up onscreen once again to play a mismatched couple in a new romantic comedy. The film is Destination Wedding and comes from the writer and producer of Mad About You. The production on the movie recently wrapped in California and headlines the two stars in the lead roles.

It's not the first time that the two actors have played prospective partners in the movies. Reeves played Jonathan Harker and Ryder played his fiancée Mina in Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 version of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The pair also played a romantically entangled duo -- albeit in partially animated form -- in the science-fiction thriller A Scanner Darkly in 2006. However, it looks like their latest joint project will be far removed from the gothic horror and technological nightmares of those movies, with a far less serious plot in this upcoming production.

As reported in Variety the comedy comes from Victor Levin, who is directing from his own script. It focuses on two apparently miserable and "unpleasant" guests who are continually thrust together at a wedding. Both disliked by those around them, they gradually build up respect for each other and a grudging mutual attraction. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they belong together. As well as previously directing the comedy 5 to 7 in 2014, Levin has also written episodes of Mad Men and Devious Maids, in addition to writing the Kate Bosworth comedy Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!

Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves in Dracula

Producer Robert Jones has unreservedly praised Levin and the two leads, saying;

"When comedy is seated in character and truth it's both funny and moving, and on that basis Vic's screenplay is one of the best I've read in a long time. ... Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves are wonderfully, wonderfully skilful actors and their chemistry on-screen truly brings these irascible characters to life."

Both Reeves and Ryder have had something of a resurgence in their careers recently. Reeves has had huge success with the ultra-cool and violent John Wick action movies and cameos in indies like The Bad Batch. Ryder is back in the public eye with her ongoing appearances in the massively popular Stranger Things. It has been a while since either of them have done out-and-out comedy, although both of them have comedic form with earlier films in their career. As the movie is currently undergoing post-production work, with no current release date given, it will be interesting to see how the chemistry now operates between the duo. Given the pedigree of the cast and crew, it points toward Destination Wedding being a slightly more snarky and mature affair, rather than a twee rom-com or gross-out comedy. We look forward to seeing the first trailer and footage.
