Keanu Reeves has been hard at work on the the famous Japanese story 47 Ronin for quite some time, but for his first directorial feature, the actor will be shifting gears to China.
As we wrote earlier this year, Reeves has been working to get his debut film Man of Tai Chi off the ground for a while now, but said it was “tricky” because it was a Chinese-American co-production. Now, the movie has found its financing and is being fast-tracked to start production in February.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Universal will co-finance Man of Tai Chi alongside Village Roadshow Pictures Asia, China Film Group and Wanda Media. The martial arts film will take place in contemporary Beijing and will feature Reeves as the villain.
Despite his oft-mocked acting style, I’m actually a big fan of Keanu Reeves and am interested to see what he’ll do in the director’s chair. It will also be fun seeing Reeves re-team with Tiger Chen, one of the stunt actors and fight choreographers from The Matrix.
With Reeves cast as the villain, Chen will star as the protagonist of the movie. At this point, it’s not entirely clear what Chen’s role will involve or what the movie is about. THR only offers this enigmatic logline: “Chen stars as a young martial artist whose fighting skills bring him to a realm of vast opportunities, and painful choices.”
Regardless of what the movie ends up being about, the selling point will be the kung fu action. It’s been 13 years since The Matrix came out and Reeves certainly isn’t a spring chicken anymore, but the 47-year-old actor certainly seems eager to show off his action chops. Earlier in the year, Reeves was enthusiastic about the movie’s action saying that there would be 18 fight scenes and a total of “about 40 minutes of fighting.”
What do you think of this movie? Are you interested in checking out a half-Chinese, half-American kung fu flick from Keanu Reeves?

Could be interesting,if he learned a few things out of the Matrix !
For this Movie, what he needs for the action scenes are “NO CUT,NO CLOSE UPS”
Best Example is Jacky Chans older Movies like Police Story 1 and 2 or Tony Jaa’s first Movies such as Ong bak 1 !
There we have One Take Shots..that last for Minutes without a cut !
Just Amazing and breathtaking.
If he manages that..then he could have a winner for a Kung Fu Movie!
Otherwise..it’s will just suck ! Quick cuts, close ups..u see nothing and probably shaky camera..buh
Jackie Chan – Legend of Drunken Master. ‘Nuff said.

Reeves has worked with some amazing directors throughout his career, hopefully he’s paid attention and taken tons of notes
Oh yeah i am definitely watching this film
could be epic if 40 mins of fighting is like the matrix
“I’m amazed at (his) ability to show up.”
Worst movie line ever uttered by somebody who is supposed to be an actor.
I’m looking at you Keanu.
I love me some good Gung-Fu. Whether Reeves has the ability to direct a good martial arts film is the question. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but only time will tell.
Keanu is one of the more mocked actors out there, much like ben affleck and matt damon and brendan fraser, but ya know what i like most of their movies too (Except Affleck in reindeer games and gigli, but lets not go there right now)! I like a lot of Keanu’s movies from Permanent Record to bill & ted to sweet november and many more hell i even liked Johnny Mnuemonic!! Id like to see what he can do behind the camera for a change….
Why would anyone mock Matt Damon? I think he has done some pretty good work as an actor.
More kung fu flicks is never bad. Keanu is a pretty cool dude too.
“I know Kung-fu”
This will be interesting and hopefully awesome. I believe in Keanu.
Helz yeah! I will definitely watch IT!
