The second installment in the true crime anthology, Katrina: American Crime Story has finally found its President George W. Bush in actor Dennis Quaid. Following the massive success of the first iteration of the FX series, franchise creator Ryan Murphy has tapped The Day After Tomorrow actor to play the president when the tragedy hit.

Quaid is no stranger to playing presidential roles as he has previously played Former U.S. President Bill Clinton in the 2010 British-American political movie, The Special Relationship. The new narrative takes on the events of Hurricane Katrina before and after it pummeled New Orleans in 2005 which Bush and his administration drew flak for their handling of the natural disaster.

As reported by EW, the 63-year-old actor joins Matthew Broderick, who will take the role of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Michael D. Brown and Annette Bening who will play Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco. The former in particular played a huge part in the government’s response to the tragedy. However, he was quickly criticized for his handling of the events with many politicians asking for his immediate firing. 

Katrina succeeds the acclaimed debut offering from the franchise in People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story that was released last year. Cuba Gooding Jr. (playing O.J. Simpson) and Sarah Paulson (playing Marcia Clark) who are both Murphy collaborators and have appeared in Katrina’s predecessor are also expected to be back with yet to be announced roles. The upcoming offering from the anthology series has some big shoes to fill in terms of critical and commercial reception. O.J. took away countless hardware during the awards seasons including some from the Golden Globes and the Primetime Emmys and was also well loved by the general viewing public.

Aside from Katrina, Murphy and his team are also currently building on the cast sheet for the third installment of the franchise -- this time revolving around the 1997 murder of renowned fashion designer Gianni Versace. As like the previous iterations of the show, the cast looks stellar with participation from Penelope Cruz who will play Donatella Versace, Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan and Ricky Martin as Antonio D’Amico. Furthermore, although it has not been announced yet, the show has also picked up the rights to A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President book by Jeffrey Toobin taking on the Monica Lewinski scandal touting it to possibly be what season 4 will be about.

No specific release date has been set for Katrina: American Crime Story but it is expected to hit the FX airwaves in 2018.
