JJ says:

I’m not familiar with Daredevil at all, but my reaction is cautiously positive. She’s a great actress, and I’ll be happy if she continues to find work she loves. My worry is that the project may not be handled well. Who is working on it; does anyone know? Fox doesn’t exactly have a reputation for quality superhero cinema (Ghost Rider, anyone?).

Tammi says:

Okay… maybe I’m being a little dense I don’t know but I happened to enjoy Ben Affleck’s Daredevil. It had a good story, good action sequences, and of course great actors. The only thing I didn’t like about is that Ben and Jen hoped in bed together the 2nd time they saw each other. Why not just bring back Ben, Jon, and Joe Pants?

But as far as Katee is concerned I think she’ll do well. That’s my 2 cents lol.

Estebomb says:

I think she’d make an awesome Typhoid Mary. She has plenty of crazy performances as Starbuck to back that up!

El Diablo says:

Maybe Typhoid Mary is going to be in the new Deadpool movie?

Oscar! says:

@JJ, Ghost Rider was Sony not Fox. And Fox would be doing DareDevil like last time.

Matt Keith says:

I liked the first film, and I think this casting choice is good.

Fury2701 says:

I thought the first Daredevil was fine.

Remember, that movie came out at the begining of the recent superhero movie boom.

790 says:

Sackhoff’s great!
Too bad she had to shop at Golden Apple. They take the term “comic nazi” to new levels.

BJ Jones says:

Daredevil was a great movie! Stop with the reboots already!

Paul Young says:

I too enjoy Affleck’s Daredevil. I still think his costume is the 2nd best adaptation from the comics, Spiderman would be teh 1st with Batman 3rd.

Andy S says:

I thought the first DD was simply OK. Affleck was terribly miscast as Matt Murdock. I thoughts Favs as Foggy was a good choice. The movie was disjointed a bit, but I still think that it could have been a GREAT film with better casting. I thought Bullseye was great. I’m not saying a reboot is needed, but they need to make a GREAT sequel without Affleck.

I haven’t read up on Typhoid Mary these days. While I enjoyed the character, she seemed a little bit like an Elektra knock-off but with a more obsessive slant. I understand she and Deadpool have “danced” recently in comics, though. I wonder if Fox would do crossovers with their licenses, like Daredevil, Fantastic Four, and Elektra?

JJ says:

@Oscar! Oh, thought it was Fox. Thanks.

So, according to the link, Typhoid Mary was a hooker (natch) who Daredevil knocked out a window of the brothel she worked in when she got between him and some guy. This triggers one of her personalities (she has three) who is particularly vicious — her “main” persona isn’t very nice either, though. She has psychic powers, including telekinesis.

Depending on the director, I think Sackhoff could do something entertaining with the character, despite the cliches.

I’ve heard repeatedly that the Director’s Cut version of Daredevil is MUCH better than the theatrical version, but you can’t rent it and I don’t feel like dropping my hard earned cash to buy it and find out.

Gary says:

Vic, I think the only version the cable network FX shows of Daredevil is the directors cut .
They show it frequently.

wes says:

Affleck has hinted that he’s pretty done with DD and I’m not sure how the rest of the cast feel. Like it or not, if Fox wants another one, it would need to be a reboot. The good thing is recent movies using the opening credits to tell a quick origin so as not to take up half the time.

As long as he doesn’t get the same costume as in the first, that costume was atrocious – Daredevil, the man without style.

Iron Patriot says:

The Daredevil DC is definitely superior to the original, much like the Fantastic 4 extended cut. If they do reboot the series, I hope they at least keep Michael Clarke Duncan. The man has the acting chops & physical presence to portray a darker, serious Kingpin, but the writing has to rise above the “summer blockbuster” approach of the original.

Phil says:

Vic, I can safely say that the Director’s Cut version of Daredevil is indeed better. I have both DVDs, and the Director’s Cut filled in a lot of the story. It’s a shame that they didn’t release that version in the theaters.

That being said, I think they’re doing the right thing rebooting the movie even so. None of the cast from the first movie seemed keen on coming back anyway, and I really didn’t trust Mark Steven Johnson on a superhero franchise, anyway. Every one of his Marvel movies has seemed like a rushed homage to the comics, instead of being a fully satisfying story, you keep feeling there’s always that one scene away from his movie from being a total disaster.

In addition, Marvel has been doing some truly brilliant story-arcs in the Daredevil comics for nearly eight years now. I’ve read all of Bendis’ run to Brubaker’s recent run, that’s ending in a couple of months. It’s been a fantastic ride for Daredevil in recent years. Typhoid Mary has been involved in a few arcs, and she’s an extremely interesting antagonist for Daredevil for quite a few reasons.

This movie could take any of that material and be an outstanding movie. So I’m looking forward to it. I’m hoping they don’t re-do the “origin” all over again, anyway.

Phil says:

@ Iron Patriot, there’s an extended cut Fantastic Four movie!? Whoa, that one I didn’t know about.

Estebomb says:

I’m a big fan of the recent Daredevil comics. All the material you need for a new DD movie is right there in Bendis and Brubaker’s runs. The main hub of Bendis’ run especially would be good, where DD’s identity is leaked to the tabloids and he has to deal with the press, the FBI, and supervillains all banging down his door.

Vince says:

I have zero faith in Fox being able to execute this.

They are simply doing this to cash in on comic book movie film popularity and they have to use the rights or loose them.

But Fox has no interest in making a comic book movie people want to see. Their thinking is – “It’s hot – let’s cash in on it” – and then they make another crappy movie.

Iron Patriot says:

@Phil
The FF extended cut came out just before Rise of the Silver Surfer hit theaters. The new scenes add a lot to the movie, including some nice moments between Ben & Alicia Masters.

Back on topic, I don’t know much about Katee Sackhoff, having seen very little BSG & nothing else of hers. She does have a physicality about her I like, so that’s a plus if this turns out to be true.

Phil says:

@ Iron Patriot, thanks.

I’m more interested in WHO is gonna play Daredevil… Although I know people are going to hate on Ben Affleck, I thought he had the perfect physicality to be a superhero. Too bad it didn’t work out.

Doom3524 says:

El Diablo had a good point. Maybe she is going to be in the Deadpool movie. They have stories together, and the rights are there, so it is a possibility.

ulik says:

I don’t have faith in Fox at all doing any reboots or whatever. They have had multiple chances to get it right and they haven’t. Matt Damon should have been Matt Murdock not Ben Afflack-of acting skills. If they reboot they need to let Marvel Studios handle the production if they won’t sell them the properties back. Even after Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and The Incredible Hulk, Fox still doesn’t get it. So I’m not excited. A total recast needs to be done and let Marvel handle it all the way or nothing.
