Marvel Studios Interested in Katee Sackhoff

Ms Marvel Carol Danvers Marvel Comics Marvel Studios Interested in Katee Sackhoff

With the long-awaited Riddick hitting theaters today, its stars are under the spotlight as they round out their press tours promoting the film. For several of the key roles, the talent is currently pulling double duty, discussing Riddick while also warding off questions of their involvement with Marvel Studios.

That fact goes beyond Dave Bautista who has a key role in Guardians of the Galaxy currently shooting in London, and Vin Diesel who has been the topic of many Marvel-related news items for the last two months. As it turns out comic reader Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), who plays the female lead of Riddick, has also been in talks with Marvel as well.

When Screen Rant interviewed Katee Sackhoff last week, she reiterated her interest in characters including Typhoid Mary, Harley Quinn and Ms. Marvel. With two of her Riddick co-stars locking down roles with Marvel, Sackhoff revealed on Episode 113 of the Schmoes Know Movies podcast that they’ve expressed interest in her as well.

“There’s been some stuff going on… there’s been a lot of checking of availability. I don’t quite know exactly… There’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year.”

Sackhoff continued, perhaps playing coy by explaining that she wasn’t clear on who she met (whether or not they were Marvel execs) and that she’s “not very good at that stuff.”

Guardians is approximately two-thirds through its principal photography and next on the docket is The Avengers: Age of Ultron which begins shooting early next year in London – the same studio Captain America 1, Thor 2 & Guardians used. If Marvel is therefore serious about bringing in Sackhoff into the mix during in early 2014, it would be for The Avengers sequel or one of several Marvel One-Shots in development.

Perhaps all the recent buzz of Ms. Marvel may finally come to fruition. And we can confirm thanks to Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito that Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel (who became Captain Marvel in Marvel Comics again last summer) is absolutely a character of interest for the studio as they aim to give more love to female heroes in the series.

Can you picture Katee Sackhoff as Ms. Marvel and should Carol Danvers be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Avengers sequel or in a solo short attacked to one of the Phase Two home video releases?

  1. Katee is known for her toughness in “Battlestar Galactica”, but she was all woman on “24″. Extremely versatile. Thumbs up from me.

  2. Katee would make a much better DC character…particularly Power Girl.

    • I don’t see the logic here:

Any fair-skinned cosplayer with a blonde wig and large rack can play Powergirl…

  3. Either Mrs. Marvel or She-hulk. I would love to see Fox use Juggernaught like Marvel/Disney used the Hulk a huge treat, and threat for us and the X-men. Fox need tho focus on the other X-men as main characters and not Wolverine I want to se Archangel, Sinister, Apocalypse, Cyclops, Gambit, Beak, Nightcrawler, and others be the main focus to great stories.

  4. Katee Sackhoff looks like a Carol Danvers. Not bad. Yvonne Strahovski would be my next pick.

    • Yvonne for sure… She needs to be used in larger roles and films than she has to date… She is just…. so….. hot.

  5. I agree Guardian, Strahovski would be a fantastic choice.

    • Ivonne is basically the type of actreess a studio like Marvel would sign.

She has the look and the type of career that could appeal to a certain part of the audience, especially being part of Dexter latest seasons.

This actress, no offense intended, doesnt have the profile for a mainstream movie as Avengers, in my modest opinion.

      • So a woman known by fans of 24 and Battlestar Galactica as a great actress that could play whatever role Marvel asks of her should give way to someone that barely anyone outside of those who watch Dexter has heard of?

        High profile?

Who’d heard of Chris Pratt before Guardians Of The Galaxy?

        Exactly.

  6. I hope Riddick puts some momentum into her leap onto the big screen. I bet Joss Whedon is directly involved in the push to get her casted, seems like he’d be the one to have that foresight, not the Disney execs. If true, kudos to them being smart enough to listen to the guy, it’s the way things oughta be…

  7. She does not look the part to play Ms Marvel if you ask me.

Maybe Domino, but not Ms Marvel.

  8. So we’ll get Ms. Marvel soon…proceed.

  9. Annalyne mccord game over

  10. Loved her in BSG and think she could play ms. Marvel on the big screen as long as she is secondary in the film and not the focal point.

  11. I think she’s great in her various roles, but I just don’t see her as Carol Danvers. She strikes me as more of a “She Hulk” type…I think she could pull off Jennifer Walters until the change; then, she would become an amazing live-action “gammazon”.

  12. I don’t see it myself, she is good at what she does and carries a presence onscreen but to play Carol Danvers…not for me.

Charlize Theron would be perfect but probably too high in profile, Adrianne Palicki could do it but I don’t see Marvel asking her guess for me that leaves Malin Akerman!!

  13. I honestly don’t think Hollywood would ever do justice to Power Girl and She-Hulk. Both characters are very muscular, and Hollywood deems that not aesthetically pleasing. I for one, think muscular women are very sexy, and would love to see these two characters done right.
You need a female bodybuilder to play these parts. To my knowledge, the only female bodybuilder I can recall seeing in films and on TV is Cory Everson, and she would be too old now to play either of these parts.
Now, I don’t know much about Miss Sackhoff – does she have the physique to pull it off and make it believable?

    • I agree that Hollywood won’t go “big” when casting their more muscular femal characters, so I sincerely doubt they’d go for a bodybuilder. My thought is that they’d go for someone who’s personality can speak for the size that their comic counterparts possessed, kind of like Tom Cruise had to bad-ass it up to pull off Jack Reacher. So I think Sackhoff has the perception of being gruff, but also the ability to be an attractive woman which is exactly the type of actress they’d want for those roles.

  14. I just started reading Ms.Marvel(Captain Marvel) comics, and I really like this character,IMO Katee Sackoff on screen tough woman personality is a perfect match for Carol Danvers of the Marvel comic books.

  15. I’d love to see Katee in that Miss Marvel bathing suit. They’ll probably change it though. She couldn’t really do a lot of physical stuff without showing some non PG parts.

  16. Ive wondered why charlize theron has never showed in a CBM yet.

  17. Marvel are interested in everybody at the moment for one thing or another

  18. I would love to see her play Harley Quinn. I love, love her on Longmire.

  19. I would love to see Alice Eve play Ms. Marvel.

  20. Katie Sackoff would be perfect for ms marvel! He’ll, I would say skip the “Ms” portion and jump her right into Captain Marvel. Skip the black number and go right for the new costume. We know Sackoff excels at bad assery and Carol Danvers is just that. I hope they use age of ultron to introduce her and get her a phase three film. I would rather have a ms marvel movie before an atman and dr strange film, and I love those two. I think they will want to make a Ms/Captain marvel movie for a few reasons, like the companies decision to start giving more attention to their pantheon of female characters and to get to the screen with a female lead before wb can release a Wonder Woman film

  21. 100% behind this! Perfect choice.
