As Chris Pine steps into the shoes of Captain Kirk for JJ Abrams Star Trek relaunch, rumors began swirling Karl Urban (The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers and Return Of The King, Doom, and more) will be playing Dr. Leonard H. “Bones” McCoy. Well, it looks like it’s a done deal according to Ain’t It Cool News.
Another brief post from me in regards to Star Trek casting, but I want to know what you all think. Me, I’m not sure yet, but I’m excited, nonetheless. Urban always plays tough, gruff types in sci fi and fantasy movies (including The Chronicles Of Riddick), but that might work well for him playing “Bones.” He is a doctor, Jim, not a wimp.

Karl Urban is GREAT !!! YEA
Well I think he might do well with it. There is nothing wrong with having McCoy be intelligent and a little tougher than in the original series. As far as whether he could pull it off or not, he is an actor, isn’t he? Good for JJ for casting against type. When Good Will Hunting came out, I never pictured Matt Damon as an action star, then he made the Bourne movies. I think that works the other way as well.
