That’s pretty much the point though. Very few elements have been changed from the original story to this remake. If you disregard the actors, location, and modern day visuals you have the same movie. If the story was more interpretative rather than a resounding match to the original there might be something more. The point of the remake is simple, money.

shoooot man i can't wait……scenery looks first class,,,Jackie Chan is first class and Jaden Smith deserves a chance…..Look people…if they tried to exactly duplicate the original Karate Kid…..what would be the point of a remake?….Let's look at the Karate Kid story from another set of eyes…..Hey isn't that what we do when we read a book? Imagine what the characters look like?

I too am an original KK fan. I checked out one trailer and thought that based on the generation of kids now, this might work, especially those younger than Jaden. Give it a chance. I don't believe it was meant to mirror the original, but give new life to the same message “Bullies can be handled”. I hope both Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith have done proper justice to THEIR version. I do agree that maybe a name/title difference would have been better. When it comes out I intend to see it.
It takes courage to take on an endeavor like this. Way to go Will!

Not excited at all on this one..

I love Chan, but I think this film idea, like the A Team should have been left alone. There aren't too many people who could fill those shoes, and the one's I think would have done the part justice would be lesser known actors…brining a true feeling to the Mr Miagi.. or Face, Hannible, Mr T, and Merdock !!

LAME! We have a love story involving a 9 year old boy and girl and an old man who beats up children under 14 years old.

I won’t even get into the Karate being taught in China. A lot of movies from the 80′s should get remade but that’s only because those movies relied on outdated special effects. Instead of butchering the Karate Kid, they could have made a GREAT update of another 80′s movie like The Last Starfighter.

This movie will be an EPIC FAILURE. How arrogant can you be? Your Directorial debut (Will Smith Directing AND Producing for the first time) and you chose to remake a classic?
And then put your son in the starring role???
Dude, why not Remake Casablanca You can Direct it, play Humphrey Bogart’s role, and cast your wife In Ingrid Bergman’s Role. Yea Yea. I’ll by that for a dollar! And Little Jayden Smith “Dre” can make an appearance too as the Karate Kid! Yea Yea that’ll work! Hey Rocky remakes here I come!!

i cant believe people would attack a lil boy. if u have issues wit the remake fine but dat have nothing 2 do with jaden he did not rewrite it. just actin an making a name 4 himself. nothing wrong if he has a famous dad(who can really act if i sat to watch wild wild west)who can give him a little push. it was stated though that will’s kids have to audition like every one else.

What are you guys talking about, next you will say G.I. Seriously though, this movie is retarded if any movie should be remade its Weird Science at least they cant mess up the Hot girl on that one cause girls are always hot unless your Heidi. Who would be a good girl for that part?
