justified has season two start date ‘Justified’ Season Two Premiere Date Announced

FX’s Justified was easily one of the best, most critically acclaimed TV series of the last year. Based on Elmore Leonard’s written works Pronto, Riding the Rap, and Fire in the Hole, the show follows Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a modern-day U.S. Marshall who carries himself like the Man with No Name, and is tense, barebones, clever, and wonderfully reminiscent of Jackie Brown, Get Shorty, and Out of Sight.

It’s no surprise that Justified was renewed for a second season, as, again, it was universally acclaimed and had fairly high cable ratings. Now, FX has officially announced that the season two release date will be February 9th, 2011 at 10 p.m. E.T. Just in time for my birthday? Thanks, FX. You guys are really swell.

In season two, after (essentially) single-handedly defeating a Kentucky crime syndicate, Raylan Givens and his beloved cowboy hat must take on the numerous criminal organizations that are moving in to fill the void – not unlike a southern version of L.A. Confidential. Additionally, Givens finds himself entangled with frequent arch-enemy, sometimes ally, and old friend, Boyd Crowder (played by Walton Goggins).

Check out the (new footage-less) season two teaser trailer below:

Recently, it was announced that one of criminal organizations, known as the Bennet clan – the biggest pot farmers in Kentucky, of course – will be led by criminal matriarch Mags Bennett, as played by Margo Martindale (a character actor who has been in everything from The Rocketeer to Dexter) and her eldest son, Dickle, as portrayed by Jeremy Davies (Daniel Faraday in Lost).

The first episode of the second season of Justified is entitled “Moonshine Wars” and will obviously detail some sort of war to do with moonshine. Or maybe that’s just a metaphor? Regardless, I can’t wait for the show to hit in less than two months. If you haven’t seen it yet, I encourage you to catch up by way of watching season one in preparation for season two. Any fan of the crime, police, western, and action genres will likely be immensely entertained.

  1. Sooooo looking forward to this Ben!!

  2. Such a BA show, FX is pretty money on their series. The only one I never really got in to was “Damages”, watched about 6 episodes of the 1st season and just got bored with it.

  3. Can’t wait. This was one of my favorites (on a pretty short list.)

  4. While I’m not a big fan of the crime, police, western, and action genres, I am a HUGE fan of Timothy Olyphant in tight jeans.

I kid… but not about him in the tight jeans… that’s no laughing matter. :)

This show is just great. The friendship between Givens and Crowder is great stuff. I was really happy when they brought him back after the pilot.

  5. Any fans of deadwood Jim Beaver has signed on for two episodes

  6. Justified is just as re-watchable as DEADWOOD – with all the ex DEADWOOD actors popping up in it, HBO must be kicking themselves they never made Series 4.
