A new trailer for Justice League has appeared online. Easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year, the Justice League recently topped social media buzz – alongside Thor: Ragnarok – at this year’s Comic Con International in San Diego thanks in part to a trailer that was enthusiastically received by fans. The movie brings together Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) as well as a returning Superman (Henry Cavill) to battle the evil Steppenwolf.
The SDCC Justice League trailer did an awesome job of showcasing Wonder Woman’s badassery and Flash’s sense of humor and also teased the dramatic return of Supes, all while introducing fans to the movie’s big villain. The clip emphasized that Justice League will be a visual tour de force, as has come to be expected of director Zack Snyder.
Today ‘s new trailer takes that footage and condenses it into the clip that will likely be shown in cinemas leading up to the movie’s November release. Each of the heroes is given a defining moment and the scenes confirming the return of the women of Themyscira is retained for those who can’t wait to the Amazon warriors back in action. Predictably, much of the trailer revolves around new villain Steppenwolf and his apparent attempt to invade Earth due to its lack of Lanterns and Kryptonians.
Those seeking fresh new footage will not find any joy here unfortunately. Interestingly however, much of the SDCC trailer’s humor is kept in, perhaps indicating that Warner Bros. are keen to dispel the notion that DCEU movies take themselves too seriously and can lean too far into grittier territory. With Joss Whedon now on board, you can bet that a pleasing balance will be found in that respect. Once again, the trailer concludes with Superman’s “Jurassic Park” moment for full dramatic impact.
There’s no denying that the trailer does a fantastic job of making you want to see the movie. Fans of Wonder Woman will recognize plenty of Diana’s action scenes and it appears as if each of the heroes has an equal role in proceedings, attracting both those familiar with the comics and relative newcomers to world of DC
With that said, it’s perhaps important to remember that both Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad had hugely impressive trailers but attracted heavy criticism for their stories once actually released. Fans will be desperately hoping that Justice League doesn’t fall into the same trap and instead emulates the huge critical and commercial success of Wonder Woman.
