I say thank goodness for the writer’s strike in this case.

who says the Writers strike is all bad?

This would not have worked well anyway. I predict we see a JL movie in a few years anyway, one that’ll likely be better.

Liz I agree totally and I’m sure KEL would as well.

The JLA concept that was in development was horrible.

This is good news.!

amanda says:

Routh was the guy in Superman Returns? That guy was terrible. I would hope we could do better than that in a team up movie. But it’s a good thing the Happy Feet director is gone.

FilmNerdJamie says:

I called this back in September/October 2007 if you’ll remember! This particular JLA will NOT get made. Period.

There’s pretty much no support from WB at this point…what with the horrible script and cast (don’t believe for a second they really intend to use them like they’re claiming in Variety!), the insanely huge budget and feeling that its the wrong time to be making a “team-up” film with the BATMAN and SUPERMAN film series still around; especially with completely different actors.

Miller will leave the project in a month or two. The actors cast will move on to other films. And we’ll hear absolutely nothing about JLA for a-LONG-while.

Here’s what will end up happening…a JLA or WORLD’S FINEST-type film will be made with Routh and Bale a few years down the line (i.e. after THE MAN OF STEEL and/or further SUPES sequels and BATMAN III are done!)

Mark my words…that’s what will happen…

That’s some of the best film news in ages. The film was never going to work.

I see ya there Steve! :-D

I am glad that the film is on hold until the script is mended. WB seems like they’re trying to be smart about this. They’re waiting to get a script that is GOOD instead of just rushing into shooting with whatever it is they have. Good on them.

Supposedly the script was ready for shooting back in Novebmer but George Miller wanted to tweak it some, and now that he’s done that the script must be “ironed out” by the WGA writers for the film. I don’t know about you guys, but whenever a director effs with a comic book movie script, they usually do something (however unintentionally) that boggs it down. Allow me to present to you exhibit A:

It was Burton’s idea to make the Joker the killer of BW’s parents and to have Alfred take Viki Vale into the batcave.

or how about exhibit B:

Singer heavily contributed to the idea of giving Superman a bastard child in SR.

even exhibit C:

Robocop 2

I rest my case.

It is usually NEVER a good thing when a director wants to “tweak” a script. God only knows what Miller had in store.

I personally hope this film still happens soon but with a descent cast and good script (I’ve seen the summaries and outlines for the script,it seriously doesn’t need “tweaking” by Miller or whomever).

If Routh and Bale aren’t going to be in it they need to get people at least half as good.

And as for the cast,it seems the rumors were true:

DJ Cotrona-Superman

Armie Hammer Jr.-Batman

Megan Gale-Wonder Woman

Adam Brody-Flash (Barry Allen)

Anton Yelchin-Kid Flash (Wally West,Flash’s teen nephew sidekick or protege)

Common-Green Lantern (John Stewart)

Santiago Cabrera-Aquaman

The Martian Manhunter must be CGI cuz I have seen no actor rumored for the role whatsoever, but we know he IS in the movie. We’ll probably see something on a voiceover actor later on if anything is still happening I imagine.

As for the cast,my immediate reaction is that I dislike most of the choices. But WB has made some pretty ballz out crazy choices for characters before that have turned out fine, such as:

Michael Keaton as Batman (Mr. Mom’s gonna be Batman? are you kidding me?!!)

Heath Ledger as the Joker (Heath? As in pretty boy Heath? I won’t even go into any gayback mountain jokes….)

hell,at first I even had trouble believing skinny, long haired Brandon Routh could be Superman or the guy from The Machanist could be Batman. But I’ve been proven wrong.

Even Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was a strange choice,I mean what, did anyone really think the guy who was in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the only straight man familiar with so many musicals and who’s most recent role was Curly from Oklahoma was gonna be tough as nails (pardon the pun) Wolverine?!!

And they cast a guy who was SHORTER than Hugh Jackman as Cyclops!! WTF were they thinking?!! Surely X-Men would be horrible!!

But again I was wrong.

So over the years studios have proved me and many other fans wrong about the decisons they make in casting. So as painful as it is for someone as opinionated as myself to do,I will withhold any further judgements on the cast until I see some actual pictures and footage from the movie (if it still happens that is).

Still,if the strike isn’t over until a few months from now and shooting can’t begin till then, that should be plenty of time for some of the cast to hit puberty by the time shooting begins! LOL!!

Just kidding. ;-)

I mean no offense to any of the actors or actresses on the film,it’s just I don’t have much faith right now. Hopefully you guys will help change my views by the time trailer time rolls around.

Seriously tho, this should be PLENTY of time for certain cast members to bulk up and workout for their roles (Cotrona,Hammer,Brody,R U listening?).

Anyhoo.

I’d still LOOOOVE to see a JLA film,if done right it will most certainly be AWESOME!!

I feel that DC/WB needs this movie to be made and soon, good or bad (hopefully good),to get people’s attention and get their characters in the spot light because Marvel is killing them with all their projects;good, bad,or indifferent. DC needs to get their characters out there somehow and what better way to get people’s attention than to make a film that literally showcases all of their A-list characters?

This film should happen and I am all for it,but I want it done with a good cast and script, whether that means having Routh and Bale or recasting, whatever needs to be done in order to get a good cast and script MUST be done then.

I hope for the best and fear for the worst with this.

Cool. ;-)

Niall says:

It was just the wrong time to make this film. If they had decided to do it in the DC wilderness years it would be ok, but to decide to make it when they already have viable Batman and Superman franchises is just crazy. It would lead to, much confusion and cheapen the brands.
