The DC Extended Universe is now looking ahead to next year's Wonder Woman in June - and then, Justice League in the fall. The first three films in the DCEU (Man of SteelBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad) remain divisive among fans and critics, but there's no denying their financial successes. The three combined grossed some $2.2 billion worldwide, which is not at all a bad beginning to the franchise. Now Warner Bros. is hoping that the next two installments improve upon the critical reception of its predecessors, while remaining successful at the box office - and there is reason for optimism.

Gal Gadot is reprising her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman from Batman V Superman in both the Wonder Woman solo film and in Justice League. Ben Affleck is also reprising his Batman V Superman role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in director Zack Snyder's DC team-up event, as is Batman V Superman "guest stars" Ezra Miller (Barry Allen/The Flash), Jason Momoa (Arthur Curry/Aquaman) and Ray Fisher (Victor Stone/Cyborg). That's not to say there aren't any DC comic book heroes appearing in the DCEU for the first time in Justice League.

The Wrap is reporting that, among others, Justice League will feature a member of the Green Lantern Corps in what is described as a "key sequence." This news is not necessarily unexpected, as Warner Bros. has Green Lantern Corps scheduled for 2020, with little to no introduction so far.

Green Lantern Corp. DC Comics

While very little is known about this possible Green Lantern appearance, it is still, nonetheless, a tantalizing bit of news. After all, Green Lantern (the Hal Jordan incarnation) was a founding member of the Justice League in The Brave and the Bold #28 and deserves to appear in the groups's first major film. Further, with Justice League set to explore Darkseid's plans for Earth (using Steppenwolf as his proxy), the heroes could use a little guidance from the Corps.

Just five years ago, this would not have even been news. In July 2011, Warner Bros. made their first attempt at launching a DC franchise of films with the Ryan Reynolds-starring Green Lantern. Well, we all know how that went, and have since been patiently (or not) waiting for the proper introduction of a Green Lantern in the DCEU. And now, it appears we won't have to wait much longer. The question really is whether this appearance will be similar to the glimpses of Barry Allen, Arthur Curry, and Victor Stone in Batman V Superman, or more substantial.

With the report suggesting that the Corps appearance will be part of a "key sequence" it certainly sounds like the role will be more significant than the previously-mentioned cameos. Still, it may just be a few minutes or less to set up Green Lantern Corps or the Justice League sequel. Either way, this is exciting news indeed - if it turns out to be true, of course.
