Although the DCEU is still young, there is no shortage of projects in development over at Warner Bros. There are those that are on the cusp of release like Wonder Woman, some that are about to begin production like Aquaman, projects that can't seem to get off the ground like The Flash, and those just announced like Nightwing. Somewhere in there lies Green Lantern Corps., a chance for WB to make up for the Ryan Reynolds version from 2011 that will bring Hal Jordan into the DCEU fold, but also introduce John Stewart and maybe more.

There has long been the thought that these characters would first debut in Justice League before headlining their own feature film where they travel across the galaxy, but as the ensemble picture draws closer to release, WB has yet to cast anyone in these roles. Word has now come out that the headliners of the Green Lantern Corps. movie may not appear in Justice League, but there will be a Green Lantern.

The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez did a live Q&A on Periscope recently to discuss all things DCEU related, and one fan eventually asked him if the Green Lanterns were still scheduled to appear. Gonzalez used this as an opportunity to tease the latest information on what he's heard, but cautioned fans that this is still a rumor and things could change. As of right now, the plan is for a Green Lantern member to appear, but as to which one that would be, Gonzalez would only say that he has "a funny sounding name" that he couldn't recall, but it isn't Kilowog. He went on to elaborate later on that once WB does cast their Hal or John, they too could make cameos, but that is just speculation at this point.

The Green Lantern Corps in the comics

It should not come as a surprise to many that the Green Lantern Corps. will have a presence in some capacity in Justice League. After all, they were the only superheroes that had announced solo movies from the start that did not make a cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it would certainly help generate excitement for the solo movie should they make an appearance in a movie that should be as big as everyone thinks Justice League will be.

So if this mystery Green Lantern is not one of the headliners, it is likely that it is merely a CGI or voice role. Gonzalez was the one who previously reported that the will-powered group would be featured in a "key sequence" in the film, so its possible that this sequence not only introduces the Green Lanterns themselves to the heroes, but also teases what other threats are on the horizon (i.e. Darkseid).

With a group as large and storied as the Green Lantern Corps., it is useless to speculate as to what particular Lantern will be making this appearance. However, if it is just a voice role, this could be where someone like John Cleese could become involved. That said, even with Gonzalez saying their presence is "confirmed," WB has yet to make that clear. Even though most would be shocked for the Lanterns to not factor in at all, it is best to treat this as a rumor for now. Thankfully, this should become more clear the closer we get to the film's release.
