It is no secret that 2016 did not go according to plan for Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe. After a rocky start with Man of Steel in 2013, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad were supposed to be the real launching points for the cinematic universe. While both succeeded in stuffing the world with characters, neither film was received well across the board by critics or audiences alike, despite both doing extremely well at the box office.

In the wake of Batman V Superman, WB invited film journalists to the set of Justice League - you can read our full report here - to showcase the new way the DCEU was being shaped. The results have so far been working as Justice League has had favorable press so far, making it one of Screen Rant's most anticipated films of 2017. The reasoning for this, according to Batman himself, could be thanks to the film serving as a rebirth of sorts to the universe.

Ben Affleck was interviewed by Hey U Guys about his experience on Justice League, and the actor's response was again filled with optimism for the world. Previous and upcoming films have taken a beating by fans and media, but just as DC is having a comics Rebirth, Justice League could offer a similar reboot as well.

It was great, and there's a lot of changes and a lot of new stuff. There was a whole feeling of kind of 'rebirth' and there's an exciting group of actors. You know, Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa and guys like that, so much fun, and Gal Gadot who's great and Henry Cavill. It was a lot of fun.

Flash, Batman, and Wonder Woman in Justice League

It is statements like these that continue to try and change the perception of the DCEU and their process. Everyone involved with Justice League continues to say how different the film is in comparison to the previous movies thanks to the hope and lighter tone the upcoming installment is said to have. Affleck, however, looked to focus on the actors themselves and what they brought to the project and their characters.

While there is plenty to be excited about, such as seeing more of the heroes, this film will also be responsible for introducing a lot of new elements. Deathstroke, Commissioner Gordon, Steppenwolf, Mera, and potentially other surprises all figure to be some of the new elements that the film is set to bring into the world. That said, it will also serve as the first proper introductions to Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg as well.

Director Zack Snyder clearly has a lot of moving pieces to work with, but based on reports from set and the way those involved talk about the project, he could pull it off. There was a similarly positive vibe around all of their previous installments as well, so - just like every other movie - there is no telling what exactly will be in store for audiences. For the sake of DC fans and everyone involved with the DCEU, hopefully Justice League is the movie that shows how great this world can be. And, if Affleck's comments are correct, it could be just that.
