This summer, director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) will resuscitate Steven Spielberg's beloved Jurassic Park franchise with Jurassic World. To promote the new dinosaur-based blockbuster, Universal Pictures has used plenty of viral marketing. A viral site for Masrani Global (the fictional company that owns and operates the park) teased the premiere of the first Jurassic World trailer, introduced the park’s security forces and revealed information about the dinosaurs, including the new hybrid.

Universal’s latest viral marketing move comes in honor of Easter, leading fans of Jurassic Park on an Easter egg hunt. At the end of the hunt, fans were treated to a nod toward Ian Malcolm, Jeff Goldblum’s character from Spielberg’s Jurassic Park trilogy.

Jurassic World tweeted a photo from the park’s incubation room with a QR code and the message “The hunt is on. Happy Easter from Isla Nublar.” Following the QR code leads to an image of Malcolm’s book titled God Creates Dinosaurs.

Jurassic World Viral Photo Ian Malcolm God Creates Dinosaurs

Goldblum played Ian Malcolm, the mathematician and chaos theory expert, in both Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World. The title of his book is likely taken from his line in Jurassic Park, “God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs,” which was adapted from Michael Crichton’s original novel.

The photo may hint at an appearance from Goldblum’s character in Jurassic World is possible, especially since Jurassic World will take place within the world established in Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, simply picking up 22 years later. Additionally, it seems Goldblum isn’t opposed to reprising roles from the ‘90s as he is set to return and star in Independence Day 2.

However, it’s more likely the photo is simply an Easter egg that acknowledges the history of the franchise and piques the interest of Jurassic Park fans. Rather than teasing the inclusion of the fan-favorite Malcolm character, the viral photo seems to be more of a nod to fans.

That being said, if the final cut of Jurassic World includes Easter eggs such as this - perhaps a reference to God Creates Dinosaurs - fans will surely appreciate the acknowledgment of Spielberg’s original trilogy. However, we may not know if this is a confirmation that Goldblum will appear, another viral marketing move or a hint that fans should keep their eyes peeled for more Easter eggs until Jurassic World premieres.
