Here are the biggest spoilers for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The dinosaurs are back in Jurassic World 2, and director J.A. Bayona brings a few surprises to the Jurassic Park franchise.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom picks up three years after the end of Jurassic World, in which the second attempt at building a family-friendly dinosaur theme park on Isla Nublar ended much the same way as the first - with death, destruction, and mayhem. When Fallen Kingdom begins, the island has decided to take matters into its own hands, as a once-dormant volcano is on the verge of erupting and wiping out all remaining dinosaur life on Earth. Eli Mills (Rafe Spall), who represents John Hammond's former partner Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), asks Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen (Chris Pratt) to return to the island in order to aid with the dinosaur rescue - in particular, to capture Owen's trained velociraptor, Blue. Once they get to the island, however, things quickly unravel.

Jeff Goldblum's Jurassic World 2 Role is Just a Cameo
If you bought a ticket for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in the hope of seeing Jeff Goldblum tangle with dinosaurs once again, you're in for a disappointment. Goldblum does return as Dr. Ian Malcolm, but only in two scenes - both of which show Malcolm giving testimony in court as an expert witness. In his first scene, he is asked whether the government should intervene and send in a team to rescue the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar, and Dr. Malcolm causes a bit of a stir when he says that they should leave the dinosaurs to be wiped out. Of course, by the end of the movie his words of warning prove to be prophetic, and Fallen Kingdom ends with a second Malcolm monologue - this one about how humanity will have to adjust to a new world, where they must coexist with the newly freed dinosaurs.
Jurassic World 2 Is Not a Rescue Mission
This particular twist has already been thoroughly spoiled by the trailers for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but might still come as a surprise to those who skipped the trailers. While Lockwood does indeed want to rescue the dinosaurs and transport them to a new sanctuary, Mills has other plans. He's secretly colluding with black market dealer Gunnar Eversol (Toby Jones) to sell the dinosaurs to the highest bidder, and has planned an auction with the world's most shady and unscrupulous international buyers. But while the dinosaurs are worth a lot up front, Blue is the most valuable acquisition of all - because she can be used to create a frightening new breed of dinosaur.

Dr. Henry Wu Creates a New Dinosaur In Jurassic World 2
Apparently Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong) still hasn't learned his lesson when it comes to messing with dinosaur genetics. Wu made his first appearance in Jurassic Park, returned in Jurassic World, and is back again in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Since his last attempt at creating an entirely new, genetically-engineered hybrid dinosaur worked out so well (R.I.P. Indominus rex), Wu works together with Mills to create a new kind of dinosaur: the deadly Indoraptor. This dinosaur is specifically designed for use in combat, and can be trained to pinpoint a target marked by a laser and go in for the kill. However, the Indoraptor is too difficult to control, and so Wu plans to use Blue to mother and then train a new breed of Indoraptor - one that will follow human commands.
Eli Mills Murders Benjamin Lockwood In Jurassic World 2
As Mills has the animals transported to the Lockwood Estate, Benjamin Lockwood eventually catches wind of what's happening and confronts Mills about it. Unfortunately, Lockwood is on his sickbed and extremely weak. When he demands that Mills call the police and turn himself in, Mills instead picks up a cushion and - off-screen - smothers Lockwood to death with it. This not only leaves the path clear for him to sell the animals for profit, but also makes him the legal guardian of Lockwood's "granddaughter," Maisie. Mills immediately fires Maisie's governess, Iris (Geraldine Chaplin), who is horrified at being forced away from Maisie after she raised "both of them." Who else is she referring to? Well...
Maisie Lockwood is a Clone
If it seems a little odd to reveal that John Hammond had a partner in creating the technology behind Jurassic Park whom we've never heard of in any of the previous movies, well, it's because Benjamin Lockwood is a bit of a retcon. But the in-universe explanation for him only popping up now is that Lockwood and Hammond had a massive falling-out many years ago. You can probably see this twist coming a mile off, due to the fact that Lockwood refuses to let Maisie see any childhood photos of her mother. After Lockwood dies, Maisie manages to sneak a picture from his photo album, which shows a much younger Iris holding Lockwood's daughter - who looks identical to Maisie. Yes, it turns out that Hammond and Lockwood disagreed on the topic of human cloning, and the rift between them occurred when Lockwood decided to clone his beloved daughter after her death.

Blue Kills the Indoraptor At The End of Jurassic World 2
In the grand Jurassic Park tradition of velociraptors leaping in to save the day at the last minute, the fearsome Indoraptor is finally taken down by Owen's old friend, Blue. Actually, it's a bit of a team effort: Claire uses the laser targeting system to make the Indoraptor focus on Owen, who then lures the Indoraptor into crashing through a glass roof. When the Indoraptor hauls itself back up, Blue intervenes and knocks the Indoraptor down through the roof, where it's then impaled on a dinosaur skeleton.
All The Good Guys Live
There's plenty of peril for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's team of heroes - a group that includes not only Owen, and Claire, but also dinosaur veterinarian Zia (Daniella Pineda) and computer whiz Franklin (Justice Smith). Freelance dinosaur hunter Ken Wheatley (Ted Levine) tries to leave them to burn up on Isla Nublar, but instead they make it onto the ship... where they then have to draw blood from a Tyrannosaurus rex in order to give Blue a blood transfusion. Really, it's amazing they even make it as far as the second act. But, with the exception of poor old Benjamin Lockwood, all of the heroes make it out of Jurassic World 2 alive - even Blue.

All The Bad Guys Die
Just because the good guys live, it doesn't mean that Fallen Kingdom lets the humans off easily. After Owen and Claire release a Pachycephalosaurus into the auction, all hell breaks loose and the movie's bad guys scatter. Wheatley makes the mistake of trying to extract one of the Indoraptor's teeth for a collection that he plans to turn into a necklace, but instead the Indoraptor puts his arts and crafts hobby permanently on hold. Eversol almost escapes death by hiding in an elevator, but then gets killed after the doors open at an inconvenient time. Finally, Mills manages to survive a stampede after the rescued dinosaurs are released into the wild (more on that in a moment), but just when he thinks he's safe he gets snatched up and torn in half. Dr. Henry Wu (who is sort of ambiguously bad) does make it out alive, however, meaning that he'll probably show up with another bad idea in Jurassic World 3.
Maisie Releases the Dinosaurs Into the Wild
A tousle between Blue and some guards in the laboratory where the dinosaurs are being held results in the lab's hydrogen cyanide (poisonous gas) spilling out into the air, with no way to ventilate it. As the dinosaurs start to weaken, the group realizes that the only way to save them is to open the main doors and let the dinosaurs escape - but as much as it pains them to watch the animals die, neither Claire nor Owen can bring themselves to open the door. However, while everyone's back is turned Maisie hits the door release button, explaining that the dinosaurs are like her and they deserve a chance to live. The dinosaurs escape into the surrounding woods, and even though Owen offers to take Blue somewhere safe, she ultimately decides to leave him as well.

Jurassic World 2 Ends On Dinopocalypse Now
As the movie ends, Dr. Ian Malcolm makes an ominous speech about how humans will have to learn to co-exist with the dinosaurs now. Some of the dinosaurs escaped the compound into the wild, and we see a Tyrannosaurus rex having a spirited roar-off with a lion in a local zoo. There's an enormous mosasaur that escaped at the beginning of the movie, which returns to chomp some surfers at the end. And in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's post-credits scene, we see that the pterosaurs have made it as far as Las Vegas. There were also some dinosaurs that fell into the hands of black market buyers, so in Jurassic World 3 we may see the horrid results of black market dinosaur breeding. One thing's for sure: the future looks considerably more dangerous.
