Jurassic Park 4 Update1 Jurassic Park 4 Release Date Announced

After years of rumor and speculation about a fourth film, fans of the Jurassic Park franchise understandably wondered if the dinosaur saga was truly extinct. However, Jurassic Park 4 finally got some legs when Steven Spielberg met with writer Mark Protosevich to go over story ideas a couple of years back, and the project really started to take off when the studio hired the husband-wife writing team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver to pen the screenplay about six months ago.

Producer Frank Marshall revealed some details about the long-awaited fourth film a few months back and said that it “will be on the big screen within two years.” Well, now we can officially say he wasn’t kidding, as Universal finally announced the film will release on June 13, 2014.

According to The Wrap, the studio made the highly-anticipated announcement Friday and added that the film plans to shoot and release in 3D. Of course, fans of the franchise will get a tasty sample of that experience when the acclaimed Jurassic Park is re-released in 3D on April 5, 2013.

Although the project has a script in development and an official release date, it has yet to attach a director. Spielberg, who directed the incredible original adaptation of Michael Crichton’s novel and the not-as-great sequel, was the first and most obvious choice. However, as we learned about a year ago, he is not up for directing JP4 and was instead working intently on 2013 Best Picture nominee Lincolnwhich he is also nominated for Best Director– and the sci-fi thriller Robopocalypse, which was recently put on hold. However, he will serve as a producer along with Marshall.

Steven Spielberg making Abr Jurassic Park 4 Release Date Announced

Jurassic Park 3 director Joe Johnston was also being discussed to take over directorial duties for the fourth film, and although nothing has been confirmed on that front, he did reveal that the newest incarnation would take the franchise in an entirely different direction. The film will obviously have to touch on the history of the previous three, but it will almost assuredly involve brand new characters and and a new story.

With no director and no cast members on board at the moment, there is plenty of uncertainty as to how exactly the film will come together, but we can safely assume that Universal will put a sizeable investment into JP4 and considering the advancements in effects technology since the third film, the visual aesthetics on the fourth will certainly be vastly improved–not to mention that it will be in 3D!

So, it’s finally happening. Mark your calendars and set a date to check out Jurassic Park 4 when it hits theatres on June 13, 2014.

  1. They’re going to write , shoot and release a film in 1 and half years???!!! Have I read that wrong?

    • Welcome to the new world of digital filmmaking.

    • The script has mostly been written already, so all they gotta do is find a director and shoot it within a year and a half

  2. Yes but will it be in 48 frames??

    • I hope not.

  3. Mam that seems so far away!

  4. Please no Joe Johnston, Please not Joe Johnston, GOD PLEASE DON’T LET HIM BE THE DIRECTOR OR HAVE ANY INVOLVEMENT!!!!

    • I don’t think it will be, but what’s wrong with Joe Johnston?

      • Sounds like a comment a Bay Hater would say. Probably raped his childhood in some way.

        • I hate geeks, thats why I do what I do. But I blow things up and film it to show off like some kind of modern day pyromaniac and get paid for it.

Anyways, I hate geeks, thats why I am making a Transformers 4, a TMNAliens, and soon, I will make a Lil’ Mermaid (Also alien). Did I mention I hate geeks and that is the reason I do what I do?

          Signed, Michael Bay

        • Memory rapists need to be brought to justice

      • He directed Jurassic Park 3.
        That is all.

  5. It better be a more mature Jurassic Park! The continuation from the first Part of Jurassic Park! Think about it were all grown up!

  6. Awesome news. Anyone think Joseph Mazzello should have a role? :)

    • He was great in The Pacific, so I say yes! He definitely would be the logical choice for a continuation of the franchise after all that time. Perhaps his character even became a paleontologist himself after getting over the incident.

I definitely hope that Jurassic Park 4 will not fall into the trap that all long-going franchises fall into: getting sillier and sillier with each installment (Alien 4 anyone?). Keep it grounded and realistic and it will work. So, please no human-dinosaur hybrids with weapons! Please!

      • No sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their heads?! Unfortunate… LOL

Being a Crichton fan boy, I can say that as long as they stay close to the stories in the books, they don’t need to do much on their own.

        • They should totally do that

  7. Awesome I love Jurassic Park, I hope this one is amazing

  8. Bring back Goldblum!!!!

    • ^This!

  9. Holy Crap! Never thought this would happen, especially this soon.

  10. Jurassic Park is my absolute favorite film of all time. However if they want it to be successful for the true fans from the beginning to new viewers. They need to bring back Lex and Tim! And bring in InGen’s rival corporation, BioSyn! (I’ve read the novel’s multiple times.) If they can do that, then I’m sure it would be slightly successful, given the script and direction.

  11. God I hope the raptors have machine guns

    • +1

  12. Cmon Liopleurodon.

  13. Maybe they will go down the Planet of the Apes route, Dinosaurs will have rapidly evolved since last we saw them, now with their own working society, living in houses, driving cars and drinking light beer

Our hero PeterDactal learns of a terrible threat beyond their city walls, a threat that could bring down the very fabric of their dino existence and reveal the truth about their makers and the reasons behind the transgender mutation that has been plaguing male dinosaurs for generations!

Just a thought, they will probably come up with some other reason for people to travel to the island and get killed off one by one until only 3 remain, yawn

    • so basically what tou’re saying Dr. Ken is that you’re hoping for a big screen adaptation of the “Dinosaurs tv show from the 90′s? “not the mama.”

      • Haha remember that show! No I was just being facetious, I’m sure JP4 will be great, at least it’s not a reboot or the untold origin story that we all know

    • Terry Dactal, surely? :-)

      • Lol I always pronounce silent letters and can’t say I have much faith in a hero called Terry haha

        • I can’t wait to see small children fight off raptors using gymnastics…

  14. It gonna be more grounded and realistic approach…sounds familiar?

    • Jurassic Dino Rises. It’s not the T-rex that we deserve, but the one that wee need… :)

      • Lol

  15. to get out to the cinemas in 1.5 years they must have started production already.

  16. Jurassic Annilation: Dinosaurs with BFG’s

    • Oops…not completely awake yet this morning. Annihilation

  17. Jurassic Annihilation: Dinosaurs with BFG’s

  18. That’s Big F’n Guns from the video game Doom for those that didn’t catch that :D

    • Hehe didnt the rumored concept art have dinosaurs with guns?

  19. all i want to see is will they finally have someone find that canister with the dinosaur embryos that was left behind in the first film.

    • meant to say *lost in the first film.

  20. Awesome! I can’t wait to see it in 2D!!! Because seriously, when will movie companies realize that 3D sucks giant raptor nuggets.

  21. Hopefully it’s better than 2 and 3… AND WORTHWHILE

  22. “considering the advancements in effects technology since the third film, the visual aesthetics on the fourth will certainly be vastly improved”

I don’t think advancements in technology necessarily mean an improved visual aesthetic (Star Wars). The first film still stands with the strongest visuals of the three (IMO) with the wonderful blend of CG and practical effects and animatronics. I think that’s a common mistake to lean so much on the visuals just because the technology is there, lets just hope they tap back into the emotion and gravity of the first one. After all a turd polished with millions of dollars of special effects is still a turd.

  23. Wouldn’t the simplest and easiest thing to do be to film Jurassic Park: The Lost World – as it was actually written?

Because the film version had nothing in common with the book – the girl’s his daughter. There’s no Arby. The raptor scene in the high hide with the lightning never happened. Even the trailer scene (which was PHENOMENAL in the book) wasn’t as described.

And, don’t even get me started on JP on the mainland. What the crunch? What is this, Godzilla?

Just film the second book. No one will even know…

  24. I hope they get a director with a great vision and eye for detail and a great script, as a fan its going to wierd with out the late stan winston making his babys, but maybe his old team will be up for the job, i do think it would be great if they bring us to the first island and the park for the fans and show what happen to it after 20 years of the dinos over taking it that could be fun and would be great to see some old faces with a new cast mixed together, please not suck….

    • Grant, that’s small potatoes compared to the money I make selling swans from the back of my van. Their feathers make a pillow fit for a lord, and their livers taste fantastic on toast. All you need is a telescope and a screwdriver. This is my happening, baby, and it freaks me out.

  25. I’ll be completely on board for JP4 the moment that Universal Studios hires Stan Winston Studios (Legacy Effects) for the practical and animatronic effects. Just like all 3 films, they NEED practical effects in order to tell the story and if they go all CGI like every movie nowadays. I would spit upon it. Universal get Stan Winston Studios!

  26. Going to be the best movie, I hope
