Last week, the rumor emerged that Universal intends to release Jurassic Park 4 in theaters by 2015 - after yanking the sci-fi blockbuster from its previously-announced 2014 release date - and now, we have more formal confirmation that the studio plans to release the dino adventure over the next two years (from the time of writing this).

Coming Soon spotted a Jurassic Park 4 banner at the 2013 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas that includes the unspecified 2015 release date; though, according to the previous report on the matter, Universal is aiming for a Summer premiere date. If so, that means the film will be joining a pretty intimidating lineup of new mega-franchise installments that are scheduled to open during the season, including The Avengers 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, and Star Wars: Episode VII.

Meanwhile, big-budget genre fare like Terminator 5 and Man of Steel 2 are both looking to start production in time to make a Summer 2015 date. So, all things considered, there's going to be some rather hefty competition for the attention of moviegoers when the fourth Jurassic Park movie arrives. (Hopefully, the extra time for development on JP4 will result in a film that can keep up with the rest of the pack.)

Jurassic Park 3D T-Rex

The Jurassic Park 4 Licening Expo book reaffirms that the film is going to be shot in 3D, rather than converted during post-production. Universal shared that news a few months ago, back when the studio also confirmed that Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) is going to direct the movie - alongside Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall as the executive producers on JP4 - with a script that was penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

In other words, with so many of the important behind-the-scenes personnel for the film locked in place - enough so that Trevorrow had begun location scouting a couple months back - the next big announcement concerning JP4 should either be casting-related or related to the exact release date. Fingers crossed, the final movie result will prove worth all the stop-and-go progress over the past 12 years (since Jurassic Park III opened in theaters).
