The age of reboots, remakes, and sequels is upon modern day cinema and that means plenty of movies from the past are being brought back in a new style and for new audiences. Just this weekend, Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven, a remake of a remake, hits theaters with a star studded cast to boast. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be leading audiences back to the world of Jumanji next year, with the start of production revealing the first look at the main group of characters. The film is set to be a continuation of the story told by Robin Williams' 1995 adventure flick, but will bring the game into the present day.

Now that production is officially underway, it was only a matter of time before more details regarding the supporting cast and the plot became known. Unlike the original where the game comes to life in the real world that Alan Perrish is in, it appears that the people will instead join the game. Additionally, the characters who will be playing the game have now been revealed.

THR has revealed that Alex Wolff has joined the film and will be playing Spencer, whose in-game avatar will be that of Johnson's Dr. Smolder Bravestone. Wolff is a rising name around the industry after getting started on TV with The Naked Brothers Band and can be seen next in Patriot's Day as one of the Boston marathon bombers. Joining him as the kids playing the game will be Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Ser'Darius Blain. Johnson made the news official by welcoming the "Jumanji Juniors."

Outside of these Jumanji Juniors joining the cast, Deadline also revealed that Rhys Darby has also joined the cast in the role of Nigel. With the cast continuing to grow, it could be Darby is also a character within the game or one of the kids' parents. As for the younger additions, it would appear as if Blain's avatar will be that of Kevin Hart. As for Iseman and Turner, Karen Gillan is the only female avatar in the Jumanji game, which could mean that Jack Black's character could be the avatar of a female player.

These details on the cast reveal a very interesting decision for the film to take. Instead of keeping Jumanji as a board game, upgrading it to an interactive video game makes much more sense in present day. That said, does this mean that Jumanji was such a popular game within this universe that a video game company turned it into a game? It could certainly be possible, especially given the public nature of the events of the first movie. This film will undoubtedly be full of action and comedy, but whether or not it will be a hit remains to be seen.

Jumanji opens in U.S. theaters on July 28th, 2017.
