Judge Minty Fan-Film

Judge Minty is a 27 minute short film based on a minor character from the 2000AD strip, Judge Dredd. Maybe the Judge Dredd universe deserves some more time onscreen afterall? If a movie is out, how about a TV series? This fan-film suggests that even with a reduced budget, exploring The Cursed Earth is an entertaining experience.

The Periodic Table of Middle Earth 570x425 SR Geek Picks: Judge Dredd Minty Fan Film, Wonder Woman Cosplay & More

Is the the ultimate geek mashup or what? Emil Johansson has sorted and categorized 114 characters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world and arranged them in the style of the periodic table of the elements. Each has a number, symbol, birth and death dates, and other information as necessary. Lord of the Rings is such an epic tale that you need a program to keep track of the participants, and this table makes a handy short form for that purpose. See the full size table at LotrProject.

Emil Johansson also created the Lord of the Rings Family Tree, the Middle-Earth Problem Solving Chart, and the Timeline Of The One Ring.

  1. Love me some Diana- click *save as*

That Jessica Rabbit cosplay is great if you start from the legs up, right up to the face… but then…

    … so close.

    • Lol yeah

  2. The “Judge Minty” film is great. Some really nice design work. It’s been a long time in the making and it’s welcome to see a little more into Dredd’s world of MC1.

    • Yeah, I loved it too. I’d seriously donate to a Kickstarter for a Dredd sequel if it had things like that in it too as long as we got to finally see Judge Death on the big screen.

  3. That woman is going to have some back problems….

  4. Those Judge Dredd costumes and the general tone are much closer to the comic book, and much better than either of the two Dredd films. Just shows why fans have a better appreciation of source material than the so-called money-hungry pros.

    • Personally I think those costumes look a little too much like cosplay. I can see why they made the “DREDD” costumes like they did. They work much better on screen. The helmets looked perfect too.

      • I agree with all of that, motoko. The flamboyance of the standard uniforms would have looked out of place in the lower-tech Mega-City One of the recent Dredd movie. The pared-down, dusty, dirty outfits (and an unshaven Dredd) made complete sense if you look at that version of the city as being its earliest stages of development, before it evolved into the gaudy, surreal nightmare seen in the comics. Closer to how they were drawn in the earliest issues of 2000 AD as well.

  5. “ha ha ha It’s a hilarious gift…”, oh and jessica rabbit was alright but looked a little hard in the face.

  6. Anyone notice the wrecked vehicle from “The cursed Earth” saga in the “Judge Minty” film?

    • Nice!

  7. I’ve been following progress on Judge Minty for a couple of years now, and it’s great to finally see the finished film. Just shows what can be achieved with minimal resources by a group of people totally into the source material. Particular kudos to the production design, cinematography, editing, and the atmospheric score; excellent work from everyone concerned.

  8. Jorg Sprave is a brilliant nutter. Loving his toilet brush arrows, and even more so the contraption he’s using to fire them. However, one suspects his slingshot condom applicator may prove slightly too radical for Bill Gates. Maybe he could use it on whoever’s responsible for that My Little Cacophony video…
