Josh Hartnett in Gunslinger

Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down, 30 Days of Night) has signed on to star as the lead in the upcoming revenge film, Gunslinger.

Gunslinger will be directed by Chris Nahon, a well known as a French commercial and music video director who directed this year’s Blood: The Last Vampire. Before that he directed a French film with everyone’s favorite Jean Reno and back in 2000, he helmed Kiss of the Dragon starring Jet Li.

Needless to say, Nahon can do action and he fits the job description for this Hartnett-starrer perfectly.

What we know of the story so far is that it follows Harnett’s character and his brother who are on a mission to seek out the gang who murdered their parents. It takes place a bit in the future in a post-apocalyptic snowy wasteland area of America..

Producer Mark Williams describes the story as a sort of futuristic Western:

“This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns … but with better weapons.”

By “better weapons,” does he mean modern weapons used in a Western setting or slightly-futuristic ones?

I love me some good Westerns and I dig Hartnett in most of his roles. If we get some cool action and solid story/dialogue then I’m sold.

Are you a Hartnett fan and does this movie interest you?

Gunslinger is set to start shooting early next year in my homeland of Canada.

  1. this movies already been done..

    its called mad max

but sounds cool to see a remake with better graphics

  2. This movie sounds awesome, I liked Hartnett in Black Hawk Down, 30 Days of Night, The Black Dahlia, even his small role in Sin City was good. I’m all for this movie.

  3. At first I thought this was the movie The Gunslinger based on Stephen King’s books that was reported a couple weeks back. After reading the description it’s an unrelated project I take it?

If it’s not Stephen King’s Gunslinger, then I agree with rich, this is basically mad max…

  4. @ Joe,

You’re right, it’s not the same as King’s Dark Tower stuff but I thought the same when first hearing about it.

  5. So… if this isn’t King’s Gunslinger(Dark Tower), can we expect THAT movie series or not?

  6. I saw J.H in London at a play “Rain Man” (character Charlie Babbitt) and was amazing, also he’s surprising in “Mozart and the Whale”(character with Asperger’s syndrome ) as manipulative boy in “O” and in movies as August and Lucky Number Slevin

  7. @ Joe,
