jonah hex trailer release date Jonah Hex Trailer

In what seems like a long overdue release, the first trailer has finally hit the Web for the upcoming comic book movie Jonah Hex. And we have the trailer below for you to watch.

Just as a reminder, here’s the official synopsis for Jonah Hex as IMDB has it:

The U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth.

The first trailer has hit right on schedule and you can check it out below thanks to Yahoo:

If you want you can watch the trailer in HD over at Yahoo.

There were things I liked about the trailer  –  from  the look of Jonah Hex  (the scar make-up is wicked) and the overall look and feel of the film, to some of the action sequences shown. However, there were also things I didn’t like, particularly the overload of one-liners. Perhaps that’s just the way the trailer has been edited and in the actual movie they will be sparse. But it seemed like the action was brought to a halt every 10 seconds so that Josh Brolin or Megan Fox could throw in a little jokey one-liner for no reason.

We’ll leave it to you guys to debate the “Megan Fox Factor” of the film.

Jonah Hex stars Josh Brolin as the titular scarred anti-hero. It co-stars Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Will Arnett and Michael Shannon. It’s written by Mark Nevaldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) and is directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears A Who!).

What did you think of the trailer? Does the movie seem better than you’d expected, or worse than you feared?

Jonah Hex hits theaters this summer on June 18th, 2010.

  1. Cool!

Looks like The Island theme song is the new hot thing for movie trailers. I've been hearing it constantly.

  2. looks watchable. id like to see another trailer before commenting.

  3. I like the little grunts Brolin does once in a while. Rorschach-esque

  4. Looks like a lot of fun. Lookin' forward to it.

  5. It looks good, but it worries me for a few simple reasons.

1- it seems like the half baked result of a Ghost Rider/Wild Wild West crossover.
    2- it has Megan Fox.
3- Megan Fox is an important character.

If Megan Fox were not so clearly the love interest, I wouldn't be as worried. She's a bone head that plays the same character in everything. If she were a little more varied, I might be a little more forgiving.

  6. It looks like great fun, sure. But I've come to be cautious of these things. Ghost Rider is a prime example.

  7. I'm not gonna trust it until I've actually seen the film itself.

  8. aghhhh Yahoo video hates me and/or my computer — but I will check back again later.. I'm 12% curious about this..

  9. It doesn't look bad at all. I'm somewhat in shock. I thought it would be terrible. Is this rated R or PG-13?

  10. I always attempt to stay away from using the widely known urban adjetive “cheese” to describe cliche movies that look riddiculously overdone and predictably 90s-ish.

  11. Didn't dig that at all…

  12. That was a whole lot less painful than I thought it would be

  13. The trailer does look acceptable and seems to be inspired by the comics, but at the same time, Jonah Hex was never my kinda thing. I'll probably pass.

  14. True enough. Megan Fox is a joy to ogle. It's just painful to have to listen to her talk, though.

Overall, the trailer looks pretty bad to me. Yes, I chuckled, but I got the impression from the description that this film was supposed to be a bit more serious than that.

Can't say I'm impressed with the makeup job on Brolin's face either. Whenever you see his lips moving, the “scar tissue” looks really fake.

  15. The scar tissue just bugs me. It's like watching a worm try to do a mambo in a pill bottle, if that makes any sense.

  16. I had a ticket to go see this at a screening. I thought it was going to be really bad. Having watched the trailer, I regret not going. It looks much better than I expected.

    Horses with dual gatling guns!!!

  17. I get a Van Helsing vibe from this which is worrisome.

  18. IF Legendary Pictures and DC are involved then I hope for the best, but Horton Hears A Who? Realy?
Other than a few annoying liners, looks decent.

  19. The movie looks terrible and Megan Fox makes it worse. She makes everything worse. Yeah, I won't be seeing this.

  20. Agreed

  21. Looks good to me.

I'm a long time Jonah hex fan, and was worried this treatment would disrespect the character. It doesn't look as macabre and bloody as the comic, but its close enough. I've always been a Josh brolin fan as well- he;s amazingly versatile and has that rare natural charisma that gives prsence to every role he plays. He seems to have breathed life into the rather 1-dimensional Jonah hex in the comic.

And Megan Fox? I've always felt she was underrated as an actress because of her beauty. I think she's convincing in every role she plays, even though as written they've been rather limited in range. I think she also has screen presence, and someone so beautiful is precisely what you want to offset the grim ugliness of Jonah.

    Thumbs up so far.

  22. Josh Brolin: +1

    Megan Fox: -2

    Net result: -1

Hopefully she doesn't get a ton of screen time, but it looks like she might.

  23. Can you say trainwreck?

  24. Why do most people hate Megan Fox? I don’t get it……

I’m actually looking forward to seeing this.

  25. Looks pretty cool. However I dont understand their logic coming out the same weekend as toy story 3. They will make less money goin up against a behemoth like that. I’d say this will b kinda like ghost rider. Best case scenario it makes 30 million opening weekend and it is as good as the Losers.

  26. I always loved the comics (Even when they improbably transported Jonah into a post apocalyptic “Mad Max” style world for a brief time.)and although I was thinking this would be pretty bad, the trailer actually looks pretty good.

I agree that there are too many one liners and for anyone who wants to ask why that can be a bad thing in a wild west setting I give you “Wild Wild West”.

    I’m rooting for it.

  27. I just saw the trailer for the first time.
    I liked it.
    I will see this film.

  28. Who knows how this will turn out, at least the music sounds cool! I guess I’ll have to hold off judgement for this one until I see.
