In anticipation of next week’s release of the supernatural comic book western Jonah Hex, Warner Bros. has released several new high-resolution images and an official synopsis for the film.

Jonah Hex features Josh Brolin (True Grit) as the titular character who – unlike in the original comic – develops strange, unnatural powers following the murder of his family and his own near-death experience at the hands of a dastardly villain played by John Malkovich (Transformers 3).  Along for the ride are stars Megan Fox (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) and Michael Fassbender (Centurion).

Here’s the official word from Warner Bros.:

Jonah Hex (Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a stoic, battle-hardened gunslinger who can track down anyone… and anything.  Having survived death, Jonah’s violent history is steeped in myth and legen, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the “other side.”  A man fated to wander alone, his sole human connection is with Lilah (Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own.

Jonah’s past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can’t refuse: in exchange for freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the sinister terrorist Quentin Turnbull (Malkovich), the man who killed Hex’s family and mutilated his face with a branding iron.  Turnball, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah’s oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead.

Based on the legendary character from the comic book series from DC Comics, “Jonah Hex” is an epic action adventure about one man’s personal quest for redemption against the canvas of the battle between good and evil.

“Legendary” is a bit of an embellishment – Hex is not quite up there with the likes of Superman and Batman ;-). However, Warner Bros. makes their film sound fairly epic with this description.  It’s a shame that the most recent trailer and TV spots make Jonah Hex look like a generic cross between Ghost Rider and Wild Wild West – as opposed to a gritty, intense western adventure.

There are also several new images from the film, which we’ve assembled into a photo gallery below.  Fanboys, rest assured, Megan Fox will likely be wearing that skimpy bodice and skirt outfit for most of the film.  As for the other actors, well, Malkovich usually makes for a fun villain so you can at least look forward to that.
