(My dear readers, you have permission to treat this rumor as hostile.)
Not two days after wild rumors started circulating that Angelina Jolie was looking to play Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s third chapter of the Batman Begins series, comes an even wilder rumor from out of the UK that Warner Bros. execs have begun eying top-notch actors Johny Depp and Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman for the roles of The Riddler and The Penguin in the next Bat-flick

DON’T DRINK THE KOOL-AID JUST YET. For every new rumor of which villains will be featured in the next Batman film, comes another statement from Dark Knight scribes Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer, saying that they are trying NOT to take the obvious route of throwing the second-most iconic villains from Batman’s rogue gallery into the next film. However, as Spider-Man 3 taught us all, when a franchise reaches a certain $tature, the studio’s wishes quickly begin to trump any creative desires. Don’t be surprised to see The Riddler, The Penguin, or both, show up in the final draft of the script.
However, we won’t really know anything until a script for BB3 is actually done. But that hasn’t stopped fan debates from raging 24/7. Personally, I don’t think Goyer and Nolan should be working too hard to try to pull out obscure villains and/or plotlines for the next installment. If Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight taught us anything, it’s that an actor at the top of his or her game is able to take what is iconic and totally redefine it. (And fanboys, really, is that not the essence of all the best comic books: re-definition of the status quo?)
Which villains do you think should make into BB3?

hes not invincible, but he is seen as it by the villains he faces, only maybe ras and joker know his mental weaknesses. He is pretty mentaly strong, in one comic MM couldnt get into his brain because he has the optimal amount of control over himself. if someone does get him to cross the line, it will probably be a down to earth character like KGBeast or deadshot.
I would love Hugo Weaving to play The Riddler rather than Johnny Depp. The problem with Johnny Depp is HE’S TOO HOLLYWOOD. he’s probably funny at times, but he’d definitely ruin the movie for us. and we’ll eventually go see it because Johnny Depp is in it rather than just wanting to know WHAT HAPPENED NEXT. Johnny Depp will take away all the seriousness the sequel has been able to sustain so far. And we don’t wanna go back to the BATMAN FOREVER decade. We don’t need a JIM CARREY or a JOHNNY DEPP anymore. This is being recreated, like CHRISTIAN BALE mentioned. Lets focus on the story, not the actors. otherwise it’ll be a failure, just like BATMAN & ROBIN (1997) because it was full of Hollywood stars. For me, MIICHAEL KEATON is still the best BATMAN of all. and by the way, just look at Hugo Weaving’s great performance in V FOR VENDETTA. He’s a true candidate. He does not have to be funny. We need someone like Hannibal Lecter in the SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Some psychopath, leaving traces all over GOTHAM CITY, and letting BATMAN solve the riddles to it. This would be just fine, plus, it would be the first actual time we’ll see BATMAN become the true detective he is.
No to Johnny Depp and Guy Pierce. Are people saying these names, because they’re so well known for “off beat’ parts? That’s called a logically fallacy.
@ NATAN; Hugo Weaving is awesome, but he’s not right for the riddler. Movies usually use Weaving for his voice (V for Vendetta).
Also, i think i saw one post that said the Riddler should be a idiot savant. LOL. I think we had the character, and it was called Rain Man.
To be honest, I still think it’ll be Bane or Black Mask; not a cerebral threat, but a physical one. I feel it ties in with the story better. Cops are chasing him, society hates him, and now he’s being battered physically by this villain (bane, black mask).
..So yeah, in the end, all this trauma and opposition would transform Batman into a cold, dark figure that we all know and love.
Someone mentioned Deadshot. He is not a main villain of a Batman movie by any means, but he would make a great side problem for Batman. He could try and be a vigilante like Batman and then get in a confrontation with the Dark Knight and become a bad guy. Just a thought.
Like I said before, I think Bane and Catwoman should be in a Batman movie but not the next one. It’s too soon for Catwoman and Bane needs to be in the last one. In the next film the Riddler and Harley Quinn will be introduced. Riddler VS Batman and Quinn VS Joker. However, adding a minor villain like Deadshot might not be a problem. It would add some more action to the film.
If there were to be a Deadshot, what actor would play him best?
PS. As far as Bane is concerned. No mental disorder. This guy has to be the Bane that puts Batman to the ultimate test. The fact that Bane is smarter and stronger than Batman is what makes him such an exciting character to pick. We don’t want an other Bane bodyguard like the one Poison “Uma” Ivy had. We want the real Bane!
“@ NATAN; Hugo Weaving is awesome, but he’s not right for the riddler. Movies usually use Weaving for his voice (V for Vendetta).” Weaving might not be right, but saying he’s usually used for his voice is a bit out there. As far as I’m concerned, he’s used for his talent. He could play Hugo Strange, though.
For Bane, get the bad guy from No Country For Old Men, to buff up and chuck on a balaclava and some goggles, and you’ve got your Bane.
Javier Bardem
yea I think we mentioned that name a while back, if you guys look back a bit. We said he would be good for the part the only thing is he needs to buff up.
ooooo… Javier Bardem–I don’t know about that.
If they do Bane, they can do some sort of Jekyll and Hyde thing. He can be the same height as Bruce, but when he uses Venom he grows. I don’t think you necessarily have to start with someone who’s 6.5-7 feet tall.
You can make his costume cover his whole body. And, he can be a pale, disfigured or sickly looking (when normal) because of his extended use of the Venom.
…who knows..Just an idea.
Sang, its a good idea but Nolan is going with the whole realism thing so that most likely wont happen
I think they can go with Bain and have the Venom drug make him stronger in a way just like PCP does with drugies, but they don’t have to make him actually grow. Just get an already big guy who when he uses the stuff gets even stronger for a short period of time.
you mean drugs similar to steroids or something?
Sort of a blend between Steroids and PCP. Steroids Increase aggression, but don’t necessarily make you stronger you still have to work out. PCP creates an out of control state of mind. People have been known to do amazing things on PCP. It’s an instant effect.
Ive never even heard of PCP but if it soes as you say it does then that could fit in well with the story
wello not all the effects of pcp, you wouldnt want bane to jump off of the wayne enterprise building, would you?
I didn’t say all the effects of PCP I just said sort of like PCP. That’s the point of calling it Venom. It’s a new original drug.
Everyone is looking for the main villains for the next movie, but what about the minor ones?
I like the idea of Victor Zsasz coming in and playing the Zsasz in the Victims comics.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Zsasz
In a nutshell, Zsasz stabs Alfred, finds out he is still alive so tries to kill him again only to be stopped by Wayne. I just think that Alfred being injured is a great test that Batman could, and has yet to, encounter.
Another option could be Deadshot. Just a minor villain that at first tries to be a vigilante like Batman, but is too violent, so he turns to the crime lords and becomes their top assassin. I just like his stories, they would tie in well with Nolan’s vision.
I am liking the ideas for Bane. I really hope that Nolan thinks of having Bane because Nolan could really do Bane justice.
He could possibly be in the next or future film since he made a brief apperance in batman begins.
Nolan would be best going with Hush as he brings a new element to the batman series.Something diffrent, and also , Hush is the most compatible with the Riddler apart from penguin. Plus he is just as dark as the Joker, so Nolan will want to stick to the theme. And psychological thrillers are Nolans specialities, so Nolan would be most comfy working with this character. Hush is probably more complex than the Joker, he actually has an origin story worth going for on the big screen. And the bit about how Hush performs surgery on himself should really creep views just as much as the Joker.
I’d assume that Zsasz will be in the next movie, if only because they mentioned him in begins during the first court scene where crane is testifying to his insanity. however, that could’ve just been a cameo for the character… so i guess it could go either way.
((sorry if this was mentioned before, it popped into my head while i was reading the earlier comments))
I’ve already suggested Bane and Black Mask to be the villains that might be in the 3rd movie.
But, for my “wild card” choice, why not FireFly (or sometimes called Firebug). Unexpected..and it would be cool and ironic if FireFly somehow leads to the creation of Mr. Freeze.
I like Bain and Black Mask, but Firefly might just be a nail in the coffin for the flm. One of the worst villians in the comics.
Ok im couriouse about one thing, is scarecrow done since Batman busted him in the begging of TDK? People are telling me he is still lose but isnt he in jail now?
He got tied up by Batman. Batman then looks at the fake Batmen and says that he doesn’t want to see them out here again. I think Scarecrow got arrested, but I think he is still going to make an appearance in B3. I feel that they put him in Arkham. The Joker is now also going into Arkham. Just like in the comics, these two guys always went to Arkham. This will work when Harley Quinn gets introduced to the Joker. Scarecrow can play a part in that story. At least that’s what I think. It ties in well with the comics.
I did not see the point of Scarecrow making a cameo in the Dark Knight , it is not like his character did a lot except for introduce Batman , and the new main mobster. And now that Batman is a villian, he should be introduced by the police chasing him down and then using all his gadgets to get away from them. And I highly doubt that the JOker will be introduced back, so no Harley Quinn. It is going to be new villian, new plot and new themes that are consistent with the Nolan Batman series. It is just that we have seen too much of the Joker to have him re-appear or re-casted. And Nolan will try to make BAtman 3 appeal with the mainstream viewers, not just comic fans.
Bring on Clay Face or The Mad Hatter!
I think Clay Face would be hard to do but interesting. Always did like him, but for the love of all that is Batman please keep Mad Hatter away.
Hey guys, I suggest a great idea: See how people would hate if Robin appears in the movie? (which I would hate too) We could then bring him to the big screen as the VILLAIN. He won’t wear any goggles, his body physionomy and voice will be totally different. Now, if we wanna see the JOKER again, we could do the following: Re-edit the deleted scenes of the Dark Knight, and have, i dunno, Gordon give the details using voice over, and then we see how the Joker was transferred to an asylum: don’t worry, we will see his face in the shadows, we’ll just see him scream, like Jim carrey in batman forever. And then, it will lead to the vengeance of the schyzophrenic HARLEY QUINN, played by Brittany Murphy. We just need the RIDDLER, and HARLEY QUINN, again I like HUGO WEAVING for the RIDDLER, Johnny Depp is too hollywood. So, I’d like to see ROBIN being a villain this time around. I mean, Christopher Nolan is a great director, and he was able to work it out when he recreated HAREY DENT’s role. I think he could also make robin as mean and violent.
Now, the story will be wrapped up in the life of Bruce Wayne. Whether or not we find out if people will get to know that he’s Batman, is not the case right now. But I think that it would be a great idea, if BATMAN dies in the third upcoming film. Why? One of the reasons is because this has never happened in any superhero movie where the protagonist dies. He will have no legacy, no successor, no Robin getting in the way, no nothing. It will shock worldwide audiences, and it will become a memorable ending in the history of cinema. Batman will be applauded, and fans will remember the work of NOLAN.
Yea that’s probably my least fave Idea I have ever seen on these boards.
