If John Woo ever considers ideas for his films from other sources he may find the perfect fit by reading the books of Matthew Reilly. They are all action-packed with gunfights galore. I read ICE STATION and I immediately pictured it being made with Mr. Woo at the helm.

I know I am way off the topic here but I just feel that the series alone with the character "Shane Schofield" are calling his name to make into film.

Slightly Off-Topic but...

Not overly impressed with Red Cliff(s) tbh. I'd just as soon watch Tsui Harks original Zu:... with Yuen Biao again.
These films make me think Woo has been playing too much Dynasty Wars because thats exactly what the film is like. Common soldiers fall like wheat before the martial prowess(?) of the mighty(??) Generals. What this means is that every few moments a new General enters the fray and engages in some terrible choreographed 'fights' before focus switches to the next General, a bit like a Chinese Royal Rumble... which leads me...

Back on topic ( :) )

Woo's latest films just don't seem to be in the same league as his earlier (pre-US movies) efforts. The themes seem outdated, his cinematography cannot compare to the best of the rest of the Eastern Directors and his action scenes were little short of cringe-worthy. Bear in mind this is coming from a fan of his work, I loved The Killer, nearly cried at Bullet in the Head and even enjoyed Once a Thief! He needs to revisit his earlier works and refine the things that made them brilliant to become the Director he once was.

I was immensely disapointed by Paycheck.
Despite a movie like Paycheck I still think Woo is a brilliant director.
I looooooooooooved Hard Boiled ; and I was also amazed by Ghost Dog(not a Woo , I know)
I look forward to seeing what Mr. Woo can do with Le Samourai.
